PGCPS Hourly Interpreter Posting for the 2021 - 2022 School Year.

Seeking interpreters for the following languages: Spanish, Haitian Creole, Dari, Pashto, Amharic, French, Vietnamese, and American Sign Language.





Interpreting services will be facilitated in both virtual and in-person modalities. Interpreter candidates must be able to fulfill both virtual remote interpreting and in-person interpreting assignments.
















Brief Description:

Candidates with advanced oral proficiency in any foreign language and English will facilitate language interpreting services for parents during meetings, conferences and workshops in schools and offices. Assignments will be at multiple locations, and interpreters must be able to travel independently to assignments. Interpreters will work on a temporary, hourly basis, with no minimum number of hours of work guaranteed. This position is classified as temporary on-call and can be terminated at any time for a lawful reason.

Detailed Description:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily:

  • Interpreters will report to the Office of Interpreting and Translation in the Communications Office;
  • Candidates with advanced oral proficiency in any foreign language and English will facilitate language access for parents in schools and offices;
  • Assignment will be at multiple locations, and interpreters must be able to travel independently to assignments;

  • Interpreting services will be facilitated in both virtual and in-person modalities;
  • Interpreter candidates must be able to fulfill both virtual remote interpreting and in-person interpreting assignments.
  • Perform related work as required.


  • Job Requirements:

    The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:
  • Successful candidates must demonstrate appropriate professional appearance and demeanor as representatives of Prince George's County Public Schools;
  • Advanced oral proficiency in any foreign language and English;
  • Experience with interpretation is preferred;
  • All applicants will be required to pass the departmental assessment test before recommendation for hire;
  • Hires will be required to attend a Prince George's County Public Schools New Interpreter Orientation;

  • Interpreter candidates must be able to fulfill both virtual remote interpreting and in-person interpreting assignments.


  • SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    No direct supervisory responsibilities.
