Early Childhood Substitute teachers receive $126.29/day that rises to $151.29/day after the first 15 days in the same assignment QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma & 24+ units in Early Childhood Education courses REQUIREMENTS FOR HIRE All applicants must: Complete application for this position (including 3 references) Successfully complete an interview with a member of the Early Childhood Education, Substitute Office or Recruitment team To expedite hire processing, candidates may gather the following materials: Negative TB test current within past 60 days Sealed copies of all college transcripts Valid Driver's License, ID card, Permanent Residency Card or current US passport Social Security Card (no copies) All hires are contingent on applicant passing criminal background check. Basic Function: Under the direction of a site administrator, site principal or other appropriate administrator, plan, implement, monitor and assess a preschool classroom instructional program. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Demonstrate clear knowledge of child learning and development Support "all aspects of the child" by addressing linguistic, cognitive, physical, and social-emotional development Strike a balance between child-initiated and teacher-initiated activities Incorporate small-group and individual activities, with a minimum of whole-group instruction Employ strategies for working with children with special needs Understand and address the needs of English-language learners Involve parents and guardians in ways that enhance student learning Understand the integration of play and learning and that play is essential to activity-based learning and to the development of self-regulation Trained to help children to make steady progress in their physical, social, emotional and cognitive development Make intentional use of play and experience-based learning, using a combination of child-initiated and teacher-selected activities. Plan, implement, monitor, and assess a classroom instructional program which is consistent with District and Board goals and philosophies, site goals and specific objectives based on assessment of student needs. Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students with health, emotional, social and developmental needs Communicate regularly with families regarding goals and objectives of the instructional program, student progress observed, needs or challenges and special accomplishments Respresent the District and Department and assigned school to local and State groups as assigned maintaining a positive image; interact with outside agencies as necessary Provide instruction to students with special needs in accordance with IEP utilizing support services as appropriate; participate in IEP meetings as appropriate. Maintain records regarding students including special education students in accordance with site, department, and District policy; prepare reports regarding students on classroom matters as directed. Develop lesson plans in accordance with site, Department, and District policy and practice and specific plans for substitutes as necessary. Cultivate a system of on-going collaboration and articulation with the elementary school Perform related duties as assigned Ability to: Adapt plans to meet different needs, learning Create an instructional program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth Establish effective rapport with students and their families Motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for elementary education Monitor children in classrooms Display the use of good judgement in making decisions Maintain professional relationships with pupils, parents, colleagues and supervising staff members Communicate effectively both orally and in writing Maintain acceptable standards of physical health, energy, and emotional adjustment of the job environment Maintain consistent, punctual and regular attendance Hearing and speaking to exchange information and make presentations Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard Seeing to read a variety of materials Education and Experience Required: Experience: Two or more years of successful classroom teaching experience. Has recent and relevant training and experience in assessment, data analysis, working with second language learners. Experience implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum and administration of Desired Results Development Developmental Profile. Education: Any combination equivalent to: Bachelor's degree, with major in child development/early childhood education and including courses needed to meet credential requirements and student teaching classroom experience. Licenses and Other Requirements: Children's Center Instructional Permit issued by CA Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC). Evidence of sufficient judgment to handle crisis situations, and to use supervision constructively.
