Essential Functions and Objectives:

Supports individuals, teams and/or departments through facilitating and regulating a series of activities and work streams. Carries out specific tasks based on established procedures, to ensure a broader set of priorities and objectives are met. Primary focus on execution of assigned tasks in a specific area of responsibility, with a non-technical scope and a high degree of customer service.

Supports the increasing demand on the language services division of the Multicultural Outreach Office and also helps the District meet the requirements of the Modified Consent Decree (MCD). Additional linguists allow for greater MCD compliance with essential parent communication at the District and school level.

- Provides administrative support and assists in carrying out specific activities, such as: distribution of materials, process documentation, conducting training, organizes and submits reports, coordinates responses, develops procedures, and maintaining records and files.

- Assesses and troubleshoots, escalates problems and interacts with stakeholders across the district to resolve problems related to area of responsibility. Exercises discretion to make exceptions to policy. Documents exceptions for compliance record keeping and reporting.

- Ensures appropriate key stakeholder involvement in planning, goal-setting, and implementation to achieve buy-in of work products. Ensures purposeful, positive and professional interactions and relationships with all stakeholders.

- Identifies process inefficiencies and proposes solutions, identifies opportunities through external research on trends in resources, programs, and services and internal research with stakeholders, and supports improvement efforts in order to ensure smooth execution with appropriate participation and support across the district.

- Supports the Supervisor with the office's mission and goals.

- Accurately translates technical and non-technical written materials using computer translation tools as well as traditional methods.

- Manages and prepares translation projects using designated software.

- Proofreads, edits, and performs other quality assurance checks on projects.

- Provides in-person interpretation to large and small audiences in a variety of settings both simultaneously and/or consecutively.

- Provides over-the-phone interpreting.

K nowledge, Experience & Other Qualifications:

- At least four (4) years of experience performing translations and interpretations with experience creating or using glossaries and style guides for translation.

- Recent experience working as a full-time translator for an agency, a company, or as an independent contractor.

- Experience translating websites and marketing material is a plus.

- Must pass a Vietnamese translation/interpretation test.

- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and Outlook, as well as Google Suite.

- Effective time management and organizational skills.

- Effective communication skills with large and small groups.

- Strong attention to detail.

- Effectively handles multiple demands and competing deadlines.

- The ability to take responsibility for one's own performance.

- Works collaboratively with others on a team.

- High degree of integrity in handling confidential information.

- Ability to assess scope of work and help assign work to other internal or external translators if necessary.

- Excellent command of both the Vietnamese and English language, exceptional grammar skills, and in-depth knowledge of other Vietnamese dialects.

- Knowledge of translation technology/software is preferred.

E ducation Requirements:

- Bachelor's Degree in Linguistics required.
