SALARY: Grade 31-35 depending on education. $17.59 to $27.81 (Hourly Base Pay Scale for Non-Exempt Paraeducators Represented by ESPBC, 2021-2022 Effective July 1, 2020)

DEFINITION : Under the supervision of the Office of Special Education (OSE), works in collaboration with school administrators, teachers, and other school staff to ensure instructional, emotional, behavioral, and social supports are implemented consistently with fidelity for an identified student or group of students. Responsible for assisting school-based staff by modeling, coaching, and supporting staff in implementing recommended strategies to ensure the best possible outcome for students. Works with students individually, and in groups, providing self-regulation skills assistance, reinforcing instruction, and assisting with classroom management. Performs other duties as assigned.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES :

Implements and models student-centered interventions and strategies as well as data collection methods to school-based staff in collaboration with or under the supervision of the supervising OSE staff.

Assists and collaborates with school-based staff in working with students individually or in groups to reinforce instructional activities established by the teacher, support skills development, implement the IEP, utilize evidence-based practices, and/or assist in other learning activities.

Assists with the development and preparation of materials needed to implement recommended interventions and strategies.

Provides training, feedback, and support to school-based staff regarding the implementation of student-centered interventions and strategies, including the Behavior Intervention Plan of identified student(s), as well as data collection methods.

Maintains accurate documentation of student's behavior and presentation as well as response to intervention.

Participates in consultation and collaboration with administrators, teachers and other school-based staff, or other meetings as needed with and/or under the supervision of OSE staff.

Performs other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

Education, Training and Experience :
HS diploma, or equivalent, plus 48 college credits or successful completion of the MSDE ParaPro Assessment required.

Experience working with students with special education needs in a classroom setting preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
Knowledge of working with individuals with developmental, emotional, social, physical and/or learning disabilities. Knowledge of the educational system.

Skill in communicating orally and in writing. Skill in establishing rapport with students, their families, and school-based staff. Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties. Skill in collaboration and coaching.

Ability to provide classroom and on-site services to students with special needs. Ability to supervise students and manage behavior.

Knowledge of basic behavioral principles and interventions. Ability to implement Behavior Intervention Plans and other interventions following explanation and training by Office of Special Education staff.

Ability to model interventions and strategies recommended by Office of Special Education staff and provide feedback regarding implementation to additional adult assistants and other school-based staff.

Ability to implement crisis intervention procedures as needed.

Ability to use computers and related equipment, including assistive technology.

Ability to maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality about students.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS :
The work of this class requires travel to schools, offices, and job sites throughout the Baltimore County area, and frequent physical efforts in the performance of job duties, which may include crisis intervention.

Employees in this class may be required to work afternoons, evenings, and weekends based on the schedules of students.

FLSA : Non-Exempt
Eligible for membership in the Maryland State Retirement System.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS :
The work of this class is generally sedentary, performed in an office environment, and requires the use of coordination and skill in the operation of word processing and other office equipment.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

All persons employed by the Baltimore County Public Schools, regular and temporary, are required to be fingerprinted and have a criminal background investigation (State of Maryland, Senate Bill 315, effective October 1, 1986) completed. The fee charged for fingerprinting is $81.00. An identification card will be issued which must be shown prior to employment.
Anyone offered employment is required to provide proper identification and documentation of eligibility for employment in the US.
If you have military experience you will be asked to provide a copy of DD214.
Official transcripts for all higher education must be received prior to contract signing.
Some positions will require employees to undergo a physical examination and/or drug testing.
All newly hired personnel must attend a Badges and Benefits session.
Additional job verification will be required for salary credit.
