Title: Assistant Elementary Principal

Position Purpose
The Assistant Elementary Principal is a Category 2, (197 day position) contracted under the Windsor Schools Administrator and Supervisors Association serving grades Pre-k through Grade 5. The Assistant Elementary Principal works under the direction and supervision of the Elementary Principal and is responsible for the supervision and operations of the building in the absence of the Principal.

Essential Functions:

Provide support to organize, supervise, coordinate, administer, and evaluate the educational programs and supportive services to meet and enhance the learning and educational needs of the elementary school students.

Sets mutually agreed upon goals with supervisees.

Assists supervisees in the improvement of student achievement.

Observes and evaluates certified and non-certified staff in the performance of assigned duties.

Conduct observations of certified and non-certified staff.

Evaluate teaching staff using the CT SEED process.

Promotes positive morale and discipline with staff and students.

Manage student discipline within the building, including bus discipline.

Maintains positive rapport with staff and students.

Supervises and directs compliance with Board of Education policy, administrative regulations and state statutes.

Assists in promoting a positive attitude toward professional growth and related activities for staff.

Prepare and provide relevant professional development opportunities to certified and non-certified staff.

Promotes positive behavior of students.

Engage students and staff in the PBIS framework serving as the administrative representative for the PBIS team.

Supervise daily lunch and/or recess monitors and the operations of the cafeteria during the lunch periods.

Assists with budget development and implementation.

Assists with the development, distribution, and implementation of student and staff schedules.

Participate in the PPT and SAT processes as the building administrator.

Responsible for maintaining accurate student records.

Responsible for the implementation of an efficient planning and placement team process.

Responsible for maintaining an attractive, safe, healthy, and productive school environment.

Schedules use of school facilities for maximum efficiency.

Provides for student safety in all school settings and functions.

Demonstrates knowledge of current education methodology and trends through participation in various professional activities.

Participates in the development and implementation of school policies and procedures.

Participates in the evaluation of the effectiveness of the educational program and recommend needed improvements.

Collaborate with the building Principal to establish high expectations for teaching and learning and to establish effective goals for school improvement.

Participates on school, district, region and state educational committees.

Provides opportunities for staff to develop a sense of self-direction and leadership qualities.

Utilizes the resources of pupil personnel services effectively.

Provides for appropriate recognition of the outstanding contributions of students and staff.

Provides orientation activities for new personnel.

Participates in recruiting, screening, and employment process.

Assist in the hiring of building staff as directed by the Principal including teachers, tutors, lunch monitors, etc.

Assists in the implementation of all school curriculum.

Works with committees in evaluating and developing curriculum.

Maintains a current knowledge of trends and practices in all curriculum areas.

Assists in the development and maintenance of supplies and materials for all curriculum areas.

Assists in the initiation, coordination, and evaluation of all special or pilot programs designed to improve the instructional program.

Provide assistance in the administration of state, district and school-wide assessments.

Analyze student and staff data to help guide instructional practices that lead to increased student outcomes.

Assists in the interpretation of the elementary school program and curriculum to staff, parents, and the general public.

Supports the development and implementation of technologies to enhance the teaching/learning process.

Promotes open communication among colleagues, staff, students and community.

Attends meetings required by the Superintendent or his delegated representative.

Works within the requirements of Board policy.

Participates in professional activities.

Maintains lines of communication with the school district, parent teacher groups, and school community.

Encourages the utilization of community resources.

Interprets the Board policies and administrative regulations to staff, students, parents and community as necessary.

Assists the school district in meeting its affirmative action goals and objectives.

Assumes the duties of the Principal in his/her absence.

Assumes responsibilities assigned by the Principal or the Superintendent.

Additional Duties:

Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal, Superintendent and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Equipment:

Travel Requirements:

Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Standard administrator work schedule as set forth in the Administrative Unit Contract.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiates instruction based upon student learning styles.

Knowledge of elementary school curriculum and concepts.

Knowledge of best practices in administration, program evaluation and staff supervision.

Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.

Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education.

Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.

Ability to develop and implement projects.

Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.

Ability to organize multiple tasks and conflicting time constraints.

Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to leadership, performance and professional growth.

Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

Qualifications Profile:

Certification/License:

Connecticut State Certification as an Intermediate Supervisor and Administrator (092), and teaching certification preferably (013).

Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.

Education:

Bachelor's and Master's Degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in School Administration.

Sixth year, doctorate, or other planned program in related field preferred.

Experience:

A minimum of five years of successful teaching experience preferably at the elementary level.

Successful administrative experience at the elementary level preferred.
