Description

The Vice President of School Operations is responsible for upholding the profitability and values of an organization by leading business operations. The duties of this position include consulting with senior leadership personnel to determine business goals or initiatives, visiting with Regional Directors, Directors and Department Managers to relay information about the companies needs and reviewing operational data to make inferences about organizational success.

Vice President of School Operations has the following responsibilities and duties:

• Lead Regional Directors, Director of Facilities and Development, Director of Safety and Security, Executive Director of Operations, Executive Director of Student Accounting, Sr. Director of Human Resources, and any other position added or reassigned based on organizational structure.

• Lead all current and future capital projects to include new school builds, expansions, and regular facility maintenance.

• Lead stakeholder communication and relations with current authorizers and primary regulatory bodies

Lead vulnerability management process and report strategy to CEO prior to implementation

• Play lead role in the annual planning and budgeting process to maximize revenue while ensuring adequate budgetary needs for quality programming.

• Evaluate and tailor the organization design and decision structures to optimize talent deployment.

• Assess the effectiveness of current executive team structures and rhythms to regularly work on improving the business beyond working in current business details

• Monitor, augment and guide appropriate responses to key metrics that ultimately propel school outcomes and organizational success.

• Contribute to adapting strategy in partnership with the CEO and Executive Team

• Work collaboratively with the Executive Team to identify current operational gaps and lead continuous improvement strategies to improve student/school outcomes

• Partner with Finance to effectively forecast business performance and change course accordingly.

• Dynamically balance the natural tensions between operations and finance by managing the intersections of the matrix organization

Knowledge and Skills Required

  • Knowledge of working in a highly bureaucratic environment without implementing strict or restrictive bureaucratic processes as business and operational solutions.
  • Ability to able to design and evolve through time organizational structures and rhythms; willing to roll up sleeves and abstract process.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across multiple business units to ensure dependencies are identified, considered, and adequately addressed.
  • Ability to provide leadership evaluation and coaching to improve efficiency, develop talent, and position the organization for scalability.
  • Ability to build and maintain a diverse set of relationships with multiple types of people on the broader team.
  • Ability to frame hypotheses based on experience, then reframe based on new data (as opposed to repeating a rigid formula from the past)
  • Skilled in leadership development, communication, organization, and analytical skills
  • Skilled in analyzing and managing business vulnerabilities to include responding to stakeholders and media.
  • Skilled in serving as the primary point of contact for communication with key business stakeholders and preparing written and verbal reports on outcomes and initiatives.

Education and Experience Required

  • Bachelors or Master's degree in business administration, Educational Leadership aor related field from an accredited institution.
  • 15+ years' experience at school level and system level leadership, preferably in a public and charter school district or educational setting
  • 10+ years managerial experience
  • Experience leading cross departmental initiatives to support organizational goals.
  • Experience overseeing multimillion dollar capital projects.
  • Mid-market experience with an organization of less than $150M and 350 employees
  • Managing in a matrix organization of moderate complexity; multiple business units / brands a plus


Education and Experience Preferred

  • Non-educational experience for-profit experience for at least part of professional career preferred
