Lake Forest Community High School District 115 is seeking a Clerical Assistant in the Special Education Office.

Description: The Special Education Clerical Assistant works under the direction of the Director of Special Education and the Vocational Coordinator and is expected to exercise independent judgment, a high degree of confidentiality, creativity, organizational skills, and be able to react appropriately under pressure. The responsibilities of this position include maintaining the Secondary Transition Experience Program (STEP) contract, supporting student employment, arranging transportation, scheduling IEP meetings, and completing various clerical duties to support an efficient special education program. In addition, the assistant assists parents, teachers and students in obtaining requested information and/or directing them to the appropriate resources. The department assistant is the first person people see when entering the office. The assistant is welcoming, friendly, and willing to help all stakeholders.

Essential Functions:
  • Provides direct clerical assistance for the DRS grant and the special education department and Coordinates transportation for work sites, community based instruction and other other transition program activitiesBuilds and schedules IEP, MDC, and transition planning meetings for students with disabilities including students receiving DRS servicesCoordinates van licensing for staff obtaining their non CDL bus endorsementCommunicates with DRS staff members, maintains electronic documents files and records for DRS reporting, and performs clerical duties for the purpose of maintaining an efficient and effective vocational and transition programPerforms office clerical tasks (schedules rooms, maintaining spreadsheets, filing, scanning, copying, etc.) as related to the special education department Assists with coordinating standardized testing (e.g., SAT, AP, and ACT) and local assessments for students with accommodationsProvides notetaking at various meetings and attends in-service presentations for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information related to job functionsMaintains instructional materials, manuals, electronic files, and records for the purpose of ensuring availability of items, providing written reference, and/or meeting mandated requirementsAssists with escorting students to and from events, activities, and other programming, including loading and unloading of students from bus or other vehicleDrives students using a district vehicle to and from events, activities, and other programming related to course learning objectivesWorks closely with the special education administrative assistant to support the needs that exist across the schoolSupports an efficient special education office and assists with calendar management, room setup, completing special projects (i.e., prepping for 8th grade articulation, course placement process, master schedule, etc. )Performs other job related duties as assigned by direct supervisorAdheres to Board of Education policies and procedures

Education, Experience, and Licensure:
  • High School Diploma or equivalentBachelor's Degree - preferredPrevious office and/or school experienceAbility to obtain a valid Non-CDL License for the purpose of transporting students to community activities, vocational sites, etc. (Required)Experience with office and school-based management systems - preferred

Compensation Range: $17.85-$20.40/hour
