Position Summary
This position is for the 2021/2022 school year, with a start date of August 27th, 2021.

This is a part-time .8125 FTE/6.5 hours per day position working on the CL-196 (196 days per school year) schedule.

This position is comprised of two separate classifications: Educational Assistant as the primary position for 4 hrs/day, and Library/IMC Assistant as the secondary position for 2.5 hrs/day. Each classification has its own pay range: Educational Assistant - $17.02-$21.36/hr.; Library/IMC Assistant - $14.84-$18.63/hr.

In order to support students and families, the essential functions of this position will require physical presence in the workplace. All public health protocols will be followed.

Educational Assistant (primary position) - $17.02-$21.36/hr.

1. Performs a variety of clerical tasks in support of and preparation for the educational process as well as duties of instructional assistance to the teacher in a classroom setting.
2. The position facilitates the smooth operation of the educational program in one or more classes by attending to details which free the teacher to develop a comprehensive lesson schedule. Aids in preserving the unity of classroom advancement by tutoring students who have difficulty comprehending or who are in need of emphasis on specific aspects of the instructional program. Prepares, disseminates, collects, processes and stores or redistributes instructional materials used in class.
3. The position in some instances may be required to adapt curriculum to students who understand and speak little English.

Essential Functions:
  1. Confer with teacher and assist in preparation of lessons appropriate to level of instruction; review coverage and comprehension of subject matter and administer tests.
  2. Monitor and supervise students engaged in activities initiated by the teacher. Record students progress and behavior.
  3. Collect, sort and correct lessons and tests; record grades in ledger; redistribute as necessary; file classroom materials.
  4. Tutor on a one-to-one or small group basis as necessary; assign extra work for quick learners and assist in remediation and completion of assignments by slow-learning students.
  5. Prepare lessons and instruct students on specific topics such as: teaching them how to write their names, then numbers, then the letters of the alphabet and eventually words and sentences; correct posture when writing, best positioning of pencil and paper and correct formation of each letter and number.
  6. May prepare spelling, capitalization and punctuation lessons appropriate to level of instruction, review coverage of materials and administer tests. May assemble testing materials and administer CTBS and other standardized tests to class.
  7. Compose and format homework assignments, charts, posters, memos, newsletters and other items as requested by the teacher.
  8. Prepare classroom materials using current office technology and equipment (e.g., computer systems, fax, copiers, etc.) and production equipment (e.g., fax, punching and binding machine, laminator).
  9. Assist in the preparation, typing and layout of such documents as the school newspaper, minutes for staff meetings and parent newsletters.
  10. Assist in the health room when the nurse is absent by bandaging minor scrapes, bumps and bruises, handing out ice packs, or attending to more serious injuries while a nurse or doctor is called.
  11. Supervise lunchroom, classroom, hallways, and recess yards so that an orderly atmosphere is preserved; control aggressive behavior, settle disputes and otherwise encourage well-mannered activity.
  12. Maintain an inventory of supplies for teacher; complete purchase orders for additional materials and stock shelves with new supplies.
  13. May perform tasks specific to the attendance and registration of students such as roll call, parent contact of absent students, and weekly mailing of attendance roster to Data Processing Department.
  14. Maintains regular and prompt attendance.
  15. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Library/IMC Assistant (secondary position) - $14.84-$18.63/hr.

  1. Performs a variety of clerical tasks pertaining to the efficient operation of the school Library or Instructional Media Center. Tasks are specifically directed toward handling, processing and circulating printed matter and media equipment.
  2. Works in areas where procedures are well-defined, such as book and film ordering, volume care, audio-visual equipment maintenance, and user assistance of circulation materials.
Essential Functions:
  1. Type order forms for purchase or rental of approximately 200 films, tapes and slides per month. Receive, sort and process mail and shipments of new books, periodicals and media materials.
  2. Maintain inventory of departmental supplies, re-order when necessary and stock shelves.
  3. Type and duplicate classroom materials for librarian, teachers or students. Distribute memos to school staff.
  4. Answer telephones, assist callers or route calls; assist students or teachers in topical research and in finding specific books or materials.
  5. Ability to operate current office technology and equipment (e.g., computer systems, fax, copiers, etc.) and other instructional machines (e.g., microfiche, overhead projector, video camera). Perform simple maintenance tasks for media equipment and office machines.
  6. Use thermofax, binder, laminator, dry mount press or other equipment as necessary to make signs, announcements, programs and other documents.
  7. Clean lenses and tape deck heads on media equipment; replace bulbs and make other minor repairs. Complete order forms for parts, replacement bulbs or work orders for media equipment.
  8. Check in periodicals daily upon arrival; verify against subscriptions list; stamp with school name and divide for various destinations within the building.
  9. Check in and sort new library books and textbooks; verify ordering information if necessary; enter data into accession log; update shelf list cards and date and price; glue pockets into books, put on plastic book covers, labels, and tape; distribute to departments or shelve as appropriate.
  10. Verify non-print materials and equipment with order form or packing slip; check for functioning ability; type and file cards for circulation use.
  11. Check out circulation materials and process returned materials.
  12. Mend torn pages and book covers on circulation materials, replace loose pages, erase writing, repair spines and spine labels, and copy lost pages from another book and reinsert when necessary.
  13. Shelve books in numerical or alphabetical order; correct misfiled books; maintain orderly, tidy appearance of shelves and facility.
  14. Enter data collected from circulation list onto computer; generate list of overdue books with this information. Prepare student billing for overdue, damaged or lost library materials.
  15. Assist with equipment delivery and pick-up; assure equipment is at the scheduled location at the proper time.
  16. Enter requests for film or video tape use from Lane ESD on OTIS computer terminal; maintain records of requests, file multiple copies in appropriate locations and remind teachers when materials are overdue. Assist in Library or IMC budget preparation; perform mathematical calculations or bookkeeping tasks for budgeting purposes.
  17. May include specialized tasks such as annual locker check-out and clean-up, recycling program, student billing upon withdrawal, or other activity.
  18. Maintains regular and prompt attendance.
  19. Performs other related duties as assigned.


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  3. Ability to use current office technology and equipment (e.g., computer systems, fax, copiers, etc.)
  4. Ability to use or learn to use computers and word processing software.
  5. Experience differentiating practices for diverse populations.
  6. Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with diverse students, staff, and community populations.

    Library/IMC Assistant (secondary position) - $14.84-$18.63/hr.

    1. Ability to type accurately, use calculator and current office technology and equipment (e.g., computer systems, fax, copiers, etc.) and other production machines (e.g., laminator, thermofax, ditto machine, binding equipment).
    2. Ability to use appropriate computer software, generate new data bases, or upgrade existing programs as necessary to implement time saving techniques or fulfill needs of Library/IMC or AV Department.
    3. Knowledge of basic cataloging systems, function and use of audio-visual equipment, information research techniques, materials processing techniques and bookkeeping methods.
    4. Ability to organize circulation materials and prioritize assignments.
    5. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, and work easily with public, staff and students when under stress of simultaneous deadlines or frequent interruption.
    6. Experience differentiating practices for a diverse populations.
    7. Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with diverse students, staff and community populations.

Minimum Qualifications
Educational Assistant (primary position) - $17.02-$21.36/hr.

To demonstrate Highly Qualified status under No Child Left Behind, you will be required to attach documentation to your application to show:
  • Completion of at least two years of post-secondary study consisting of 72 credit hours, 48 semester units (attach transcripts); OR
  • Obtaining an associates or higher degree (attach diploma); OR
  • Meeting a rigorous standard of quality and demonstrating, through a formal state or local academic assessment, knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing and mathematics (attach test scores).
  • Bilingual proficiency and/or multicultural experience strongly preferred.
Library/IMC Assistant (secondary position) - $14.84-$18.63/hr.

  1. Two years previous secretarial or clerical experience.
  2. Previous training, education or experience in library work preferred. Previous experience operating audio-visual equipment desirable.
  3. Bilingual proficiency and/or multicultural experience strongly preferred.
