POSITION TITLE: Computer Support Technician
REPORTS TO: Director of Information Technology
LEVEL: Support Staff
This is a hands-on position, requiring an intermediate level of technical expertise in specific areas, as well as some technical knowledge in a few others. This position is responsible for all desktop computer hardware at a specific Proviso location (East or West), including initial installation, troubleshooting and problem resolution, and repair or maintenance coordination. In addition, this position will address all identified software problems, providing resolution if possible, or escalating within the department as necessary. Requires the ability to work independently and effectively prioritize activities, as well as to recognize, troubleshoot and quickly solve or escalate problems as they occur.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Experience or Training
An Associate's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent commercial training in specific applicable technologies or products (may be able to substitute a significant amount of pertinent experience).
At least 3 years of experience supporting desktop hardware and software, preferably in a local area network environment. Experience should include all Windows and iOS versions.
Any network administration or infrastructure support experience is a plus.
Experience with telephony and voice mail systems a plus.
Special Requirements of the Position
CompTIA A+ certification, or equivalent experience
Knowledge of structured cabling systems and concepts
Knowledge of network wiring standards
Expert-level user of Microsoft desktop software products (Word, Excel, etc.)
Excellent verbal and good written communication skills
Microsoft Exchange Server is a plus
Knowledge of Cisco network equipment is a plus
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Install, upgrade, replace and relocate all desktop and network computer hardware, including switches computers and printers
Address and resolve a wide variety of user issues related to network connectivity, computer functionality and software operation
Document problems and resolution attempts, and escalate to proper levels when necessary
Install and repair network and telephone cabling
Assist the Network Administrator with simple network administration as needed
Assist the Network Administrator with e-mail configuration and support as needed
Assist the Network Administrator with telephone/voice mail system support as needed
Provide application support to clients (MSOffice, SIS, etc.)
Other duties and responsibilities that may from time to time be assigned or administratively directed.
