Job Details
Leads improvement of teaching, learning, and achievement in K-12 Math and Science instructional programs. Monitors and evaluates standards-based curriculum, instructional materials, research programs, and professional development. Assists with implementation of district goals and strategic commitments.
Essential Functions
1. Supervises and trains assigned staff, conducts performance appraisals, makes
employment and discipline recommendations, and coordinates work assignments.
2. Develops and reviews district comprehensive plans for curriculum improvement in
the mathematics/science areas. Plans curriculum articulation across schools and
levels.
3. Evaluates alignment of district goals and objectives with state and national standards
for mathematics/science.
4. Evaluates effectiveness reviews of district mathematics/science programs and
curriculum.
5. Participates in the evaluation and selection of curriculum materials and equipment.
6. Represents Chief Academic Officer and district on mathematics and science matters
at national, state, and local levels, including speaking to parents, community groups,
and media representatives. Serves on national, district, state, and/or community
councils and committees.
7. Participates in the development and/or coordination of district programs and
management systems.
8. Provides curriculum and instructional methodology assistance and support to
classroom teachers.
9. Assists with grant acquisition and implementation.
10. Assists in the interpretation of programs, philosophy, and policies of the district to
school staff, parents, students, and the community.
11. Advises district and school staff on school improvement initiatives and processes.
12. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education: Master's degree in Mathematics, Science, or Educational Leadership from an accredited college or university. Doctorate degree preferred.
Experience: Five (5) years supervisory or administrative experience at the school, central office, state, or national level with a content area background in mathematics and/or science. Curriculum development activities experience preferred.
Certifications & Licenses: Florida Department of Education Certification in Mathematics or Science.

• In-depth knowledge of mathematics and science curricula
• Knowledge of instructional design methodologies
• Knowledge of mathematics/science related subjects
• Knowledge of educational trends, methods, research, and technology
• Knowledge of district, state, and federal policies, guidelines, laws, and rules related to math and science education

• Ability to identify important issues or problems related to math and science education
