    Two (2) positions will be filled from this job opening.

    SUMMARY: Assist special needs deaf and hard of hearing students in a variety of programs. This includes, but is not limited to the following tasks: use of sign language to communicate with student, scribing for student, monitoring use of FM equipment, orientation of schedule and classroom locations, adaptation of materials to complete assignments, organization of materials, facilitate language acquisition through modeling, questioning and expansion.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
    1. Assist students with classroom and/or recreational activities. Guide them in their assignment or tasks. Perform tutoring with the use of Sign Language to ensure reinforcement of academic concepts, social and behavioral skills. Help with organization of classroom materials for student. Assist student with adherence to school/class/activity beginning and ending times to ensure punctuality.
    2. Facilitate language acquisition through modeling, questioning and expansion through the use of sign language.
    3. Assist with students with personal hygiene and care. Assist with students' physical problems such as suctioning, trachea, tube feeding, diapering, etc.
    4. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
    EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:
    • High School Diploma or equivalent.
    • Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) and/or Signing Exact English (SEE) required
    • Experience in working with children with Special Needs preferred.
    LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS or CERTIFICATIONS:
    • Criminal background check required for hire.
    TECHNICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:
    • Basic writing, math and computer skills. ? Ability to translate inform from and into sign language, Braille, or other alternative forms of communication.
    • Ability to keep up-to-date technically and apply new knowledge to your job. Includes adapting to and mastering new system applications and processes as implemented by the district or department.
    • Ability to promote and follow Board of Education policies, Superintendent policies, building and department procedures.
    • Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with all people including those from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds. Willingness to contribute to cultural diversity for educational enrichment.
    • Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.

    MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT OPERATING KNOWLEDGE:
    • Operating knowledge of district information technology systems and any other department specific software and equipment required within 2 months after entering position.
    • Operating knowledge of and experience with typical office equipment, such as telephones, copier, fax machine, Email, etc.

    SALARY INFORMATION:
    All Classified positions are paid on an hourly basis. All Newly hired classified employees are placed initially on Step 1 of the pay grade for their position. Classified employees can advance an additional 7 steps (maximum Step 8) based on their previous experience. Final hourly placement on the Classified Salary schedule is dependent on the Grade Level for the position being posted and employees' previous work experience. "Grade" refers to position or job classification and "Step" refers to the number of work experience credits or service years. See our Classified Salary Schedule for hourly rates.
