MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training and Experience
  • Possession of a bachelor's degree, preferably in a related field
  • Evidence of knowledge of special education
Duties & Responsibilities: (Any one position may not include all of the listed duties, nor do all of the listed examples include all tasks which may be found in positions within this classification.)
  • Supports School-wide Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (SWPBIS) coordination;
  • Coordinates intensive individual student behavior plans;
  • Employs behavior de-escalation techniques in an effort to reduce major crises;
  • Ensures supervision of students at all times, including escorting students safely to and from classrooms, lunchrooms, and/or restrooms;
  • Observes students' performance, and records relevant data to assess progress;
  • Ensures integrity of all student write-ups, disciplinary actions, and parental contact;
  • Participates in disciplinary meetings with students and parents/guardians;
  • Participates in teacher-parent conferences regarding students' progress or problems;
  • Carries out therapeutic regimens such as behavior modification and personal development programs;
  • Participates as a resource person in in-service training and planning;
  • Works in collaboration with the school team;
  • Other duties as assigned by the Team Leader or Director.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • An understanding of the IEP process; including current IDEA laws and state and local regulations;
  • Ability to interpret data related to student goals for appropriate interventions;
  • Knowledge of current state law/regulations regarding high school proficiency standards;
  • Knowledge and competency of understanding credit and graduation requirements;
  • Leadership skills in working with individuals and groups (i.e. initiating individual or group discussion, listening, clarifying and facilitating interactions and sharing of ideas);
  • Ability to counsel students, parents, staff and lay persons individually and in groups;
  • Skills in communicating concepts and information accurately orally or in writing;
  • Ability to demonstrate effective liaison relationships with parents, schools, and agencies;
  • Ability to aid in program development.
