(Contingent upon funding) - CBH position - full-time permanent teaching position beginning at the start of the 2021/2022 school year.

Under direction of the school principal and/or appropriate supervisor, school counselors will adhere to the PPSD School Counseling Program based on the American School Counselor Association National Model and the Rhode Island Framework for School Counseling to foster positive outcomes for all students through education, prevention, early identification and intervention. School counselors will implement and practice ASCA's developmental domains of academic achievement, college and career readiness, and social emotional development.

Additionally, school counselors will:
  • Become members of a professional learning community where purposeful collaboration, flexibility, innovation and shared decision making are essentialSupport and nurture the academic, college and career readiness, and social-emotional development of all studentsParticipate in all district and school-based professional development, including working with internal (coaches) and external (consultants) supportsEngage in all district-driven curricular and other initiatives as defined by the Providence School DepartmentFollow all relevant District procedures and policy

Roles & Responsibilities
  • Inclusively contribute to students' self-esteem building, promoting globally productive, high-achieving, life-long learning individualsCollaborate and consult with families, teachers, administrators, and community agencies to fully support students in their educational journeyImplements the District's Comprehensive Developmental School Counseling Program to ensure students' academic achievement, college and career readiness, and social-emotional developmentAdvise and motivate students and families in academic planning for high achieving personal best in the overall process of scheduling course selectionsProvide school based support for teachers and staff to assist with initiatives and practices on improving academic success, attendance, and social emotional wellnessSchedule students into classes and assists principal with the master schedule, as neededAdvocate and accommodate individual educational needs within the ASCA domainsPromote school and community enrichment opportunitiesAnalyze and interpret standardized test results for placement and advisingInterpret and access personal records and transcriptsPromote and teach college/career awareness, exploration, and proceduresInspire, explore and encourage enrichment/internship opportunitiesCoordinate and organize college and career fairsPrepare, inspire, and guide students through post-secondary planning and achievementSupport financial aid awareness, planning, and completionAssist students with scholarship opportunities (secondary)Instruct, carry out, and motivate students toward the common practice of conflict resolution and coping strategiesPractice and collaborate with school based teams on Multi Tiered System of SupportsPractice, cultivate, and model race, culture, and gender sensitivity and inclusivity in the school communityCollaborate, refer, and consult with school and community agenciesActively participate and serve on various student support and academic team meetings as requested by the principal (e.g. Crisis, Attendance, and Target/MTSS Team)Participate and coordinate informational sessions such as school choice, college/career, and financial aid (secondary)Connect, outreach, and support families and community agencies relationshipsPartner with community agencies and post-secondary institutions for the enhancement of student experiences in academics, college and career, and social-emotional developmentServe as a resource to families (e.g., information sharing) and an advocate for studentsSupport the coordination, implementation, and completion of students' Individual Learning PlanMaintain confidentiality at all timesPerform other duties as designated by the building administrator

Salary Rate Range
Teacher Salary Scale + up to 5 extra days

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in School Counseling from an accredited college or universityDemonstrated knowledge of content area standards and research-based counseling practicesUnderstanding of Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies (PBIS)Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, administrators, and parent/community membersDemonstrated communication and group facilitation skillsKnowledge of adult learning theoryHighly proficient in technology and ability to utilize online platformsYou must complete the new hire compliance training prior to your first day of employmentBilingual PreferredSelected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check. Selected candidates cannot begin work until passing their background check.
