Status - Full-time, Exempt
Position Summary: Provide social services and assistance to improve the social and psychological functioning of children and their families, and to maximize the family well-being and the academic functioning of children. Individual will address such areas as teenage pregnancy, misbehavior, and truancy. May also advise leadership and teachers on how to deal with students with problems.
Responsibilities:
1) Interviews students individually, in families, or in groups, assessing their situations, capabilities, and problems to determine what services are required to meet their needs.
2) Counsels students, groups, or families regarding issues including mental health, poverty, unemployment, substance abuse, physical abuse, rehabilitation, social adjustments, child care, and/or medical care.
3) Maintains case history records and prepares reports.
4) Counsels students whose behavior, school progress, or mental or physical impairment indicates a need for assistance
5) Diagnoses students' problems and arranges for needed services.
6) Consults with parents, teachers, and other school personnel to determine causes of problems such as truancy and misbehavior to implement solutions.
7) Develops and reviews service plans in consultation with students and performs follow-ups assessing the quantity and quality of services provided.
8) Serves as liaison between students, homes, schools, family services, courts, protective services, doctors, and other contacts to help students who face problems such as disabilities, abuse or poverty.
9) Leads group counseling sessions that provide support in such areas as grief, stress or chemical dependency.
10) Addresses issues regarding harassment and bullying in order to encourage a safe learning environment.
11) Manage all aspects of McKinney Vento students.
12) AIS Participation.
13) Family Support.
14) Other duties as assigned and requested.
Qualifications:
- Masters Degree in Social Work.
- Proficiency in microsoft office, electronic management, grading, and other instructional technologies.
- Working in an urban, school setting is strongly desired.
- Strong verbal and communication skills.
