PURPOSE OF JOB:

Prepare students for successfully completing all requirements of obtaining a high school diploma in the district's night school program. Assist the manager in development of all areas of the programs. Create opportunities for students to be successful within and outside of the traditional learning environment by providing supports to students to help close gaps in their learning. Provide access to cutting edge learning and educational options that allow students to earn and recover credits in a variety of ways. Work with students to support their unique set of social emotional, learning and other needs to ensure success toward graduation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Design lessons and provide core academic instruction utilizing various instructional delivery methods and strategies such as technology-assisted instruction, individualized and small group activities.

Utilize grade level appropriate, research-based curriculum techniques to ensure student progress.

Develop and implement a plan of instruction based on assessment results and prepare students to demonstrate measurable progress toward mastery of the program.

Conduct as needed and as scheduled by Kansas City Public Schools and or supervisors, conferences with students and parents/guardians to convey progress and or address behavioral concerns.

Maintain student progress and attendance records in the student SIS system and for the Educational Innovation Office.

Demonstrate evidence of ability to impart knowledge through documentable student growth and progress.

Collect and compile information to prepare periodic weekly and monthly reports as required by the administration.

Monitor students in the extended learning program.

Monitor case files and students within the extended learning program.

Provide monthly reports to school administrators and central office.

Review student data, enrollment, and progress, through extended learning programs and ensure students receive special education services.

Establish a well-organized, attractive and relaxed classroom atmosphere in a print rich environment.

Maintain up-to-date curriculum materials.

Invite speakers and community leaders that can discuss relevant issues with students.

Create partnerships for student success.

Attend in-service and faculty meetings.

Work with colleagues, parents, students, and school administrators to review the academic success or deficiencies of students within the extended learning program.

Meet with students/families enrolling to determine and obtain any needed supports.

Coordinate/Maintain a productive daily schedule for the purpose of instructional activities, completing reports, providing students support services and other duties.

Participate in a variety of meetings, committees, workshops and trainings as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of academic support and student success.

Ability to work mid-day and evening hours.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: NO

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university

5 years successful teaching experience with middle to late adolescent children—working with at risk children

Any Missouri Teacher certification (1-6) or (7-12) in any subject at any grade level

Desire to see students succeed and meet goals

Ability to work as a team with other teachers and staff

Experience working with student discipline, special education, behavior intervention

Excellent communication skills and the ability to build rapport with students, school staff, families, community and other stakeholders

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Length of work year: August 9, 2021-June 30, 2023 (Temporary Grant Funded Position)

Hours: 1pm - 8:30 pm
