The Cambridge Street Upper School is an innovative public middle school in the Cambridge Public School District. We are looking for a dynamic, committed teacher with strong content and pedagogical knowledge, solid classroom management skills, a deep commitment to social justice and anti-racism and experience working in an urban school setting.

The Opportunity:
Cambridge Street Upper School seeks a talented, energetic, and flexible educator to join us as an extended term substitute Math teacher. The math teacher will be responsible for the instruction of grade level math Common Core content and practice standards in accordance with the district curriculum map. All instruction will be facilitated within a heterogeneous classroom using flexible groupings. The successful candidate will have experience planning, implementing, and adapting curriculum based on the Massachusetts Curriculum Framework for Mathematics and the associated mathematical practice standards. Leveraging a strong belief that all students are capable of achieving at the highest levels, the teacher will provide multiple access points and scaffolding within instruction and assessment for a wide range of learners.

Key Responsibilities :
  • Knowledge about and the ability to implement the Massachusetts curriculum and the Common Core standards.
  • Plan effective instruction and use appropriate instructional and questioning techniques.
  • Assess student learning; monitor students' understanding of the curriculum and adjust instruction appropriately.
  • Create a positive environment for student learning and engagement.
  • Use technology to increase student learning and interest.
  • Maintain appropriate standards of behavior, mutual respect and safety.
  • Communicate learning goals and high expectations to all students; strive to ensure equitable opportunities for student learning.
  • Implement district-wide common units and assessments.
Your Skill Set:
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited college or university required; Master's Degree preferred.
  • Experience working with a diverse population of secondary school students is preferable.
  • Ability to think creatively and constructively about program and curriculum.
  • Experience using multiple teaching strategies, including ones to enhance student reading and writing performance.
  • Willingness to collaborate with colleagues.
  • Massachusetts Licensure in Mathematics preferred.
