Student Advisory Center Coordinator

QUALIFICATIONS :

  1. Bachelors degree in education or related field
  2. Experience working with adolescent youth and their families
  3. Strong communication and organizational skills
  4. Understanding barriers to academic and behavioral success
  5. Knowledge in crisis intervention, counseling and behavior management
  6. Demonstrated ability to collaborate with other professionals
  7. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the District may find appropriate and acceptable.


REPORTS TO : Principal/Assistant Principal

SUPERVISES : n/a

JOB GOALS : Student Advisory Center is designed to support student achievement behaviorally and academically. The coordinator will be providing ongoing support for students referred to the Student Advisory Center. Strategies and tools provided will create and sustain a positive, nurturing school climate, in order to enhance student learning, promote the overall efficiency of the school system, and maximize the educational opportunities available to each child.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES :

  1. Student Advisory Center duties:
  • Explain procedures, rules and expectations to students
  • Assist students in assignments and meeting the targeted social and behavioral skills
  • Return completed students' assignments to teachers
  • Set aside time for individual counseling; focused on behavior identification and replacement. Be available to mediate conflicts as needed.
  • Keep files for each student, tracking the behavior modification progress.
  • Follow-up with teachers, parents and students to ensure that behavior is improving.


  1. Support school administration to provide a safe learning environment
  • Provide mid-term and trimester reports on SAC students to the SST building team.
  • Participate in curriculum level in-service days with other at-risk personnel
  • Participate in training opportunities available through the Juvenile Court Office, School and Youth Family Development
  • Meet weekly with Administration
  • Keep principals informed of students who are not making adequate progress

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT :

  1. 189 Contract Days. Salary and calendar year to be established by the Board of Education.


EVALUATION : Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the District's policy on Evaluation, State Statute, and any applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.
