About Permian Basin

 

Permian Basin is a large region encompassing the majority of West Texas. When you think of the Permian Basin, think oil country, Friday Night Lights, sunny days, and gorgeous sunsets. The two major cities that IDEA Public Schools will serve are Midland and Odessa, located about 15 miles from each other and situated almost exactly halfway between El Paso and Fort Worth.

 

Though only 17% of residents have a college degree, the community is eager to innovate, partner, and transform the education system for the next generation of scholars. IDEA Public Schools is proud to launch in Permian Basin as a high-quality education opportunity for families, with a commitment to serve over 10,000 students at scale by launching 14 schools across Midland and Odessa.  

Role Mission:   

Social Worker workdirectly with our at-risk scholars to ensure that they graduate from IDEA and go to and through college byprovidingthem individualized emotional, behavioral and mental health support. They ha large group ofat-risk scholars and have them independently master coping skills to address and overcome mental, behavioral, and academic challenges as well as supporting students and families with the removal of barriers to persistence, attendance, and academic success through connections to community resources.

90% Persistence for scholars in caseload   
  • Partners with lead team members and teachers to identify-at risk students and create caseload  
  • Schedules individualized and group recurring sessions to address mental health needs.   
  • Establishes individualized counseling goals for scholars.   
  • Uses knowledge and understanding of the reciprocal influences of home, school, and community to intervene for scholar success via such practices as assessment, crisis intervention, home visits, conflict resolution, individual and group counseling, consultation, program development, dropout prevention and coordination of school and community services.   
  • Informs Lead Team of potential persistence concerns.  
  • Design/and or lead professional development on crisis, trauma, positive behavioral prevention and intervention techniques and social-emotional skill development for applicable audiences (minimum 1 per quarter)  
  • Lead, or coordinate with community partnerships to present parent information sessions on crisis, trauma, parental support, behavioral support, or mental health support for families (minimum 1 per quarter)

97.5% Scholar ADA for scholars in caseload  
  • Collaborates with Registrar to get daily list of absences to contact families.  
  • Develops a tiered system to track infractions and have an action step for each infraction to be addressed.  
  • Communicates with family to figure out root cause of absenteeism and develop solutions to address concerns.

98% On Track to Graduate for scholars in caseload  
  • Reviews grades with scholars in individual check ins to create an action plan to address concerns.  
  • Collaborates with teachers of concern to develop a plan to address failing grades concerns.  
  • Communicates with families regarding weekly progress as needed.

School receives a 4.5 rating on the TCP survey question "Adults at the school care about me"  
  • Implements appropriate programs, groups and initiatives to target at-risk populations (according to the assessment of data).   
  • Plan individual school and/or system-wide programs to promote a positive and caring school climate.   
  • Collaborates with community agencies to coordinate services within the school system.   
  • Design, coordinate, and or lead monthly parent training, workshops, or information sessions related to social-emotional, behavior, or community resource support (minimum 1 per quarter).  
  • Leads staff professional development related to self-care, trauma-informed practices, relevant developmental needs of students, and other SEL-related topics in coordination with other student support team members.  
  • Students in Tier 3 of RTI process on caseload and will receive weekly, one-to-one support, per RTI intervention plan.  
  • Conducts a needs assessment and evaluation of bullying, violence, and risky behavior.  
  • Leads and coordinates crisis response team on the campus to provide and ensure student or family social/emotional needs are being met.  
  • Connects student and families to community resources to get the support needed. Is the liaison between community support person and campus to share information to wrap services around the student.

95% of Move This World facilitators complete curriculum.  
  • Leads the implementation of the MTW curriculum for the school.   
  • Trains, observes, and coaches teachers to implement the program with fidelity  
  • Pulls and reports data for lesson completion weekly to the lead team and campus wide  
  • Manages the execution of the SEL survey 3 times per year to achieve at least 95% completion in all grade levels  
  • Attends and participates in feedback sessions with the national team to assess implementation of SEL curriculum

Supervisory Responsibilities : None  

Qualifications:  
  • Education:Master's degree in social work.   
  • Licensure: Minimum LMSW (licensed Masters in Social Work)  
  • Experience:Teaching experience preferred; Ability to write and speak Spanish preferred

  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills  
  • Ability to adjust and adapt to a multitude of situations in the school environment  
  • Ability to build solid student and family relationships

  • 98% On Track to Graduate (CP) or on-grade level (Academy) for students in caselad
