POSITION SUMMARY:
• The Autism Specialist provides training and other forms of technical assistance in instructional strategies,
educational planning, behavior management, and student assessment to teachers of students with disabilities;
including students diagnosed with autism, intellectual disabilities, and emotional and behavior disorders.
• Provides thorough explanations and modeling, as necessary, for teachers and others on how to implement researchbased interventions with fidelity.
• Observes implementation and provides coaching and support to teachers and others who are implementing these
interventions.
• The Autism Specialist will connect students and families to external wrap around services, as appropriate, to address
barriers that are impacting students' progress and development in school.
Requirements :
CERTIFICATION:
? Must have or be eligible to obtain a Georgia PSC approved certification in special education or related field and/or
have a BCBA certification.
EDUCATION:
? Master's degree required.
? preferred in Special Education or Applied Behavior Analysis.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
? 3 years of successful, verifiable experience improving student academic achievement or behavioral skills by
providing instruction and interventions in a K-12 special education environment.
? Experience as a BCBA-Board Certified Behavior Analyst preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
? Knowledge of normal and abnormal child development with various learning disabilities including severe and
profound cases, children with traumatic brain injuries.
? Ability to teach principles and approaches pertinent to children.
? Has a deep understanding of best practices that increase student achievement with Autistic children.
? Understands and can implement assessment systems to monitor progress and adjust instruction.
? Provides support and guidance in line with special education laws and regulations.
? Excellent written and oral communication.
? Proficient in Microsoft Office - Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Compensation :
Salary Grade: IS4-7
Salary Range: APS Salary Schedules
