Job Summary
The teacher expert, instructional support and innovative learning is responsible for ensuring the successful implementation of technologies impacting learning and assisting the district in achieving district goals and initiatives. The teacher expert is an itinerant position that works in schools throughout the Anchorage School District, prioritized by instructional support needs. This position is shared by the Teaching and Learning Department at the Education Center and the Information Technology Department on JBER. The teacher expert reports to the senior directors of IT and of Teaching and learning, and is evaluated by the senior director of Teaching and Learning.

This position requires a valid Alaska educator certificate. The number of work days is based upon the AEA negotiated pay scale. Information on the pay scale can be found online on our Labor Relations Department website. Positions that are 0.50 FTE to 1.0 FTE are associated with the Alaska Teachers' Retirement System (TRS), positions that are 0.40 to 0.49 FTE are associated with the Alaska Employees' Retirement System (PERS). Positions that are 0.39 FTE or less are not eligible for state retirement benefits.

Job Requirements
The following are required:
  1. A valid Alaska initial, professional, or master teaching certificate.A minimum of five years successful teaching experience. Experience with technology integration and blended learning.

The following are preferred:
  1. A valid Alaska teaching certificate with endorsement in educational technology, or related experience.Demonstrated experience training and/or presenting to adult learners. Demonstrated experience with digital learning in classroom or professional development settings.Demonstrated experience organizing, promoting, and communicating large staff development and/or student engagement events, for example training workshops, online PLN development, student TED Talks, etc.Demonstrated ability to craft innovative solutions using existing and emerging technologies.Demonstrated technical skills in areas such as Google Educator, Common Sense, MIE, and others, and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to process, hardware, and software.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Provides inspiration and support to staff in developing and implementing new innovative learning opportunities.Supports development of a communitywide common language around innovation, reaching out to the greater community to collaborate and form partnerships.Serves as program facilitator for ASD instructional projects such as curriculum rollouts, Google Apps for Teachers, Q for Teachers, Canvas, and others.Develops and monitors district learning pathways and micro credentials, assisting other departments as needed.Develops, promotes, and leads engaging professional development experiences aligned to district goals and initiatives in a variety of formats, including face to face, blended learning, and online courses.Creates and manages communication of IT initiatives to certificated staff, including email, social media, and web.Serves as direct phone support for certificated staff during peak learning times.Assists with the development and implementation of the district goals, which may include participation in committees or work groups to:
    1. Acquire appropriate instructional resources, including software, hardware, and other emerging technologies.Development of technology infused lesson plans, online curricular resources, school and district level technology implementation plans, and grant applications as needed. Set and evaluate district standards related to technology and teaching.
    Creates documentation as a part of implementation of strategies, processes, and best practices for new and existing technologies.Meets regularly with school-based technology support staff.

Physical /Mental Demands
The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking and hearing. Specific visual abilities are also required. The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs. Additionally, the employee must be able to understand vague and implicit instructions, be able to readily recall facts and details, handle conflict and make effective decisions under pressure. The employee must have the ability to effectively manage the stress of working with students, parents, and other employees representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic work environment.

Work is performed in a professional environment with a wide variety of individuals having differing functions, personalities and abilities, including working with diverse groups of people in a variety of different settings.

While performing the duties of this job the employee may be regularly exposed to a video display. The employee may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
