Yonkers Public Schools is currently seeking a Principal (Grades 6-12) for the International Baccalaureate high school (Grades 9-12) and the middle school (Grades 6-8) housed in one campus.  The principal will  lead a passionate and driven team that is focused on sound pedagogical practice and are grounded in a culture of collaboration and personal growth. The successful candidate will continue to assess and innovate an educationally sound and developmentally appropriate learning environment that supports a diverse student population.

Responsibilities:

  • Has a superior working knowledge of instruction and assessment aligned to New York State learning standards and the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP)
  • Applies knowledge of the IB learner profile to varied approaches in instruction and learning, lesson planning, questioning, and assessment
  • Ensures that all learning goals are clear and communicated effectively to students, staff and families
  • Leads the creation of classroom environments that are safe, engaging, student-centered, and inquiry-based
  • Ensures that each student’s progress is consistently documented throughout the course of the year and that data assists in driving important decisions forward for the division
  • Articulates and amplifies the District’s commitments to school-wide strategic goals in realizing diversity, equity, restorative justice, and inclusion for all
  • Provides high quality and regular feedback to staff that is an accurate reflection of the school’s progress towards goals
  • Leads the vertical alignment of curriculum across grades 6-12
  • Leads the use and monitoring of DP Planners to maintain a personalized and cooperative learning environment for all students, teachers and staff
  • Leads the coordination of planning, with grade teams and the IB Coordinator to ensure mandates are being met
  • Identifies professional development and support for teachers that are aligned with IB requirements
  • Provides for ongoing communication and community participation
  • Actively engages with internal and external stakeholders to advance racial equity and inclusion in all aspects of the school’s culture and organizational practice
  • Collaborates with the District to identify and secure partnerships that will enhance the implementation of the total school program

Certifications:

School Building Leader (initial/professional).

School Administrator/Supervisor (provisional/permanent)
