Great Lakes Academy is a high-performing, K-8 charterschool serving families on the southeast side of Chicago that opened in 2014. We are seeking a highcapacity, high impact, and growth-oriented Instructional Coachto support teachers' growth, witha special focus on emerging literacy instruction.

Job Description

TheInstructional Coachreports to the Principal andworks closely with the Instructional Leadership Team ("ILT") the Assistant Principals and the Directorof Student Support, and collaborates with the teamto ensure that teacher professional development and coachingis high quality, growth-oriented, rigorous, implemented with fidelity and results in high levelsof student achievement. TheInstructional Coach coaches teachers to implement a consistent warm/strictclassroom management system and supports the selection, implementation, planning, execution, dataanalysis and action planning of a college preparatory curriculum in each subject area and grade that theycoach.The Instructional Coachmust have a demonstrated history of results in elementary literacyinstruction.

Job Outputs

1. Teachers are trained to plan and execute lessons atmastery, resulting in high levels of student achievement.

2. Teachers demonstrate high levels of growth acrosslesson planning, execution, and management.

3. Teachers report trusting and feeling supported bythe IC, and demonstrate growth that results in improved student achievement.

4. PD is thoroughly planned & executed to be responsiveto school trends and proactive in supporting high student academic achievement.

5. Classroom systems and procedures at school are clearlycommunicated and consistently implemented to 100%.

6. Rigorous, Common Core standard aligned curriculumis analyzed, selected and utilized at a highly effective level for students.

7. Teachers demonstrate comfort analyzing their data& responding to trends with action plans individualized to scholar needs.

8. A staff culture around data analysis and responsiveaction planning is cultivated and supported; data analysis and action planning is supported for allsubject areas.

9. Teacher observations & teacher coaching meetings happenconsistently, and have a clear structure that results in teacher growth and improved studentoutcomes.

10. Retention of GLA teachers coached by the Instructional Coach is 90%.

Job Responsibilities

1. Drives teachers' growth at high levels through individualgoal setting and coaching around classroom culture, curriculum development, lesson creation andlesson execution, and data analysis and action planning

2. Works with the school Instructional Leadership Teamto develop, implement and maintain every detail of the school's systems and procedures, includinghomework, discipline, transitions, entrance and exit, community celebrations, morning meetings,and classroom culture so that GLA is structured and highly joyful with a focus on growth

3. Coaches portfolio of teachers on creating and executinginstructional plans that are highly responsive to student data and bring 100% of scholars to masteryof 100% of objectives

4. Creates system for tracking school culture and monitors,analyzes and defines action plans based on this data

5. Plans and teaches model lessons for teachers

6. Leads coaching for 1st year teachers and developsa supportive, growth-oriented community of 1st year teachers.

7. Develops clear vision for literacy instruction ingrades K-4 and supports the strong development of reading skills in all scholars (K-8) across all subjectareas.

Competencies

1. Strong teaching track record of student success inthe classroom and around student culture & learning

2. Experienced teacher coach with track record of growinginstructors in lesson planning, curriculum building, action planning, data analysis, classroommanagement, and lesson execution

3. Deep knowledge of the teacher "taxonomies" per TLAC 4. Deep knowledge of elementary curriculum in math and ELA

5. Deep knowledge of curricular resources and programs,including an understanding of common core and social-emotional learning practices

6. Strong executor able to create high quality work productand stay highly organized in a multi-faceted role with intense time pressures

7. Strong communicator and relationship builder withadults, including all staff, student families and community partners

8. Able to build a strong, collaborative, data driven,and motivated team

9. Able to drive with cultural consistency, emotionalcontinuity, system and procedural consistency; demonstrates intentional calm and positivity

10. Demonstrated leadership skills - highly organizedand efficient, execution oriented, self-motivated, self-aware, self-directed, solution driven, and humble

Job Requirements

1. Bachelor's degree is required; Master's degree ispreferred; and

2. Four years teaching experience in an urban public school or urban charter school setting preferred

3. Two years of teacher coaching experience preferred,some experience coaching teachers required

4. Belief in and alignment with Great Lakes Academy'score beliefs and educational philosophy is non-negotiable.
