Lincoln Center of the Arts Middle School, an early start calendar school, is seeking an assistant principal to support the 6-8 learning environment. Licoln Center of the Arts is nestled northeast of downtown near the city’s theatre district. The school proudly offers a full fine arts curriculum that includes band, orchestra, choir, graphic/visual arts, and dance. LCA, as it is affectionately known, has strengthened its focus on the common core and Wisconsin model academic standards for all content-areas with a renewed focus on planning, monitoring and assessing student achievement. The staff regularly engages in reflective practices to improve social, emotional and academic development. PBIS and restorative practices are part of the school culture and are used to increase student voice and promote equitable practices.

The focus of the school is preparing students for successful careers in the areas of science and technology. The school offers several opportunities for students to develop skills in coding, drafting, electronics, and design. The ideal candidate will have previous K-5 grade leadership experience with a strong background in instructional strategies, culturally responsive practices, and use of instructional technology.

An MPS Assistant Principal assists the Principal in the overall management of the school including evaluations, discipline, and the general school operations. When designated, acts as Principal during periods of the Principal’s absence. He/She assumes responsibility for activities delegated by the Principal, which can include athletics, safety, special education, governance council, PBIS, learning teams, professional development, enrollment and programming, among others.

Administrative applications for the following position are being accepted by the Office of Human Resources through Monday, April 12, 2021 . A current resume and three (3) manually signed letters of recommendation dated within the last year must be attached to the completed application. Non MPS employees must submit transcripts confirming a Bachelor’s Degree and a Master’s Degree.

Additionally, a type written response to the following four questions must be emailed to Human Resources at 565@milwaukee.k12.wi.us by Sunday, June 20, 2021. Submissions should be a separate word document including the applicant's name, the four questions and responses:
  • What is the role of the assistant principal as a member of the instructional leadership team of a school?
  • What unique skills, abilities or experiences do you think an assistant principal for an urban school district such as MPS will need to have?
  • Describe a situation or an example of your work handling a difficult student, staff member or parent.
  • Describe a leadership role that you have recently taken and the measurable results that your leadership produced.
