Description

Summary: The Maddux School seeks a warm, creative, energetic educator to teach Kindergarten, 1 st and/or 2 nd grade students with different learning styles. Teachers are responsible for supervising a class of 12-15 students and coordinating instruction with co-teacher and therapists. This position entails lesson development and implementation; classroom management and coordination; partnership and communication with parents; and progress monitoring and reporting. Please note that the Maddux School is currently open for in-person instruction with COVID related modifications and policies in place as part of our Return to Campus Plan- Prevention, Preparedness, & Response Plan. Immediate opening.

Job Responsibilities
  • Oversee academic and social-emotional needs of students
  • Contribute to curriculum development and supervise implementation
  • Provide individual, small, and large group instruction as appropriate and ensure appropriate systems are in place to monitor student progress
  • Ensure appropriate systems are in place to monitor student progress
  • Communicate with parents/guardians
  • Administer educational and skills assessments for programming and to support internal and external assessments
  • Report biannually on student progress through formalized Progress Reports, or more frequently, as needed
  • Conduct ongoing monitoring and evaluation of instructional materials
  • Participate in development, implementation and documentation of classroom and/or individual behavior management programs

Requirements
  • Master's degree in Early Childhood/Elementary Education, Special Education or related field or current enrollment in Master's degree level program
  • Maryland Standard Professional Certificate or eligibility for Conditional Certificate.
  • School-based early-childhood/elementary educational experience
  • Exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational and time management skills
  • Demonstrated ability and commitment to collaborate with classroom team
  • Ability to perform several tasks simultaneously
  • Cooperative participation within an interdisciplinary team
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with colleagues and parents
  • Flexibility with regard to daily routine and responsibilities
  • Support of program mission and philosophy
  • Computer skills related to common office tasks such as email, conducting internet searches, and using MSOffice (e.g., MSWord, Excel, PowerPoint)

Ivymount School and Programs provides school- and community-based services for children and young adults with special needs from throughout the Washington metropolitan area. The school program serves more than 200 students, ages 4 – 21, with speech and language impairments, learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, health impairments, and Autism Spectrum Disorders. The classrooms are structured to serve students with a range of academic and cognitive abilities, including, in some cases, those who have the potential to obtain a high school diploma. Ivymount Outreach Programs serve students, teachers, and parents to support children with learning and developmental challenges in the community through assessments, evaluations, therapies and professional development. The Maddux School is preschool-2nd grade program that combines creative approaches with traditional early childhood education in a unique transdisciplinary model. The goal in all of the programs is to help children and young adults achieve their highest level of development and independence and to live with dignity and self-respect. Ivymount School has been twice recognized as a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence by the U.S. Department of Education. Founded in 1961, Ivymount is celebrating its 60th year!
