  • JOB TITLE: Custodian (3 temporary vacancies)
    LOCATION: District Services
    WORK YEAR: 260 Day Employee
    SCHEDULE: 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday. Work hours may be determined by manager and employee.
    WORK STATUS: Classified-Essential Personnel, Hourly Non-Exempt
    REPORTS TO: Building Manager/Custodial Supervisor

    This position is temporary for the 21/22 school year.

    POSITION SUMMARY:
    Responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the inside and outside common areas of the school during the school day, minor repairs, and general assistance to the staff. Develops and promotes good community relations among various community and school clientele.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    1. Cleans the open and common areas of the school throughout the school day.
    2. Monitors and restocks restroom supplies and materials.
    3. Performs seasonal work, such as summer deep cleaning and maintenance.
    4. Maintains custodian supply inventories, organizes equipment closet and maintains equipment.
    5. Sets up for groups and special events or activities by staff or outside usage.
    6. Performs minor building, plumbing and electrical repairs as needed.
    7. Opens the building in the morning.
    8. Performs various responsibilities on outside areas, including snow removal, lawn watering, trash pickup, doors and windows.
    9. May be responsible for locker maintenance and minor repair.
    10. Moves furniture and other equipment when needed
    11. Works cooperatively with day custodian setting priorities and determining custodial needs for the building.
    12. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

    SUPERVISORY DUTIES:
    None

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

    Required
    • High School diploma or G.E.D.

    Preferred
    • One to three years experience in similar position
    • Knowledge of custodial equipment, methods and materials
    • Some knowledge of electrical, plumbing and HVAC
    • Hand and power tools
    • Effective communication
    • Bilingual Spanish/English desirable.

    ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
    The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions required the following physical demands: frequent lifting 5 to 20 pounds, occasional lifting 20 to over 50 pounds, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, frequent bending, reaching, kneeling, walking, standing, occasional squatting, climbing, crawling, stooping and signification fine finger dexterity.

    ESSENTIAL ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:
    This job is performed in a mostly clean and comfortable environment, some noise, dirt and dust, odors and fumes, may encounter hazardous situations and materials.

    CLEARANCE:
    Must clear background check through the CBI and the FBI through Fingerprint submission.

    SALARY:
    Salary based upon Class 1 of the Operations and Maintenance Salary Schedule and is $15.86 - $17.59 hour based upon previous related experience.

    Please note: This is an at-will position with the Sheridan School District. The annual salary for this position will be determined by number of hours scheduled to work each day and number of days scheduled to work each year. The computed annual salary will be spread out in equal payments over 12 months. Sheridan School District employees are paid once a month on the last work day of the month that is not a weekend day or holiday.

    BENEFITS:
    Employees who are scheduled to work 30 or more hours per week are eligible to obtain district health benefits which include medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance and supplemental benefits. Positions that qualify for health benefits also qualify for leave which could include vacation and daily leave to be determined by the position and number of days assigned. Sheridan School District No. 2 is a public employer and participates in the Colorado Public Employees' Retirement Association (PERA). All employees are required by state statute to contribute 10% of salary on a pre-tax basis to PERA and the District contributes 20.9% in addition to employee contribution.
