Job Description
Job Description The Special Education Teaching & Learning Specialist (TLS) will work with classroom teachers and facilitators to support student learning and accelerate student achievement. The TLS will focus on individual and group professional development that will expand and refine their understanding about research-based specialized instruction that supports rigorous strategy attainment in literacy and math. In order to meet these goals, the TLS will provide personalized support that is based on the goals and identified needs of individual teachers that are aligned to student achievement and professional practice goals for educator evaluation. Qualifications: 1. Master's degree preferred from an accredited college/university. 2. Current Massachusetts State Teaching License. 3. Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience. 4. Experience engaging adults as learners strongly preferred. 5. Deep knowledge and skill in specialized, research-based instructional practices 6. Passion for teaching and learning, with a focus on results for all students 7. Emotional intelligence and skill in working with colleagues respectfully and in partnership. 8. Commitment to the growth mindset and cultural proficiency. Functions: 1. Support the philosophy and vision ofNBPS as outlined in the District Plan. 2. Facilitate the intellectual and professional skill development of Special Education teachers to improve classroom practice. 3. Create and sustain positive, encouraging relationships with teachers and administrators that are mutually accountable to meet the needs of all students. 4. Communicate and demonstrate researched-based, highly specialized instructional practices that result in increased student performance. 5. Communicate effectively with all members of the school district and community. 6. Promote a collaborative professional culture characterized by ongoing reflection on education's practice in the service of student achievement. 7. Work closely with district leaders to support teacher development linked with school and district improvement goals and plans as well as individual educator goals and plans. Terms: In Accordance with the Unit A Contract General Responsibilities: 1. Demonstrate knowledge of researched-based, specialized instructional strategies that engage Special Education students. 2. Demonstrate knowledge of the Special Education Team process in relation to IEP development, compliance and related timelines. 3. Provide organized, individual and/or group learning opportunities for teachers and facilitators as needed. 4. Demonstrate knowledge using a variety of assessment tools. 5. Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of curriculum. 6. Provide support in analyzing student assessment data. 7. Assist teachers with designing instructional decisions based on assessment data. 8. Assist teachers with specific classroom activities. 9. Provide support for classroom motivation and management strategies. 10. Assist teachers in creating materials that are in alignment with current curriculum. 11. Monitor intervention programs by observing and meeting with teachers. 12. Provide teachers technology resources related to instruction and curriculum. 13. Provide assistance in researching instructional and/or curriculum issues. 14. Model lessons. 15. Provide encouragement and support to teachers. 16. Encourage ongoing professional growth for all teachers. 17. Work positively toward meeting identified district and building improvement goals. 18. Assist with development of district curriculum, instmction and assessments. 19. Attend workshops/conferences to learn about innovative instmctional strategies and coaching structures.
