ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

General Dance Instruction:
  • Understands, accepts, and abides by the School's philosophy and mission statement in all his/her school activities.Ability to teach using various dance styles and methodologies from beginner to advanced level.Develop dance curriculums and prepare lesson plans.Ability to communicate with a diverse group of teachers and students.Engage, encourage, and motivate students to reach their goals.Evaluate student performance and make recommendations for improvement.Choreograph routines and select music for every day class and performances.Provide a fun and creative environment.Arrives punctually, be prepared for each school day, and maintains regular attendance.Creates a positive classroom environment which supports engaged student learning.Implements standards-based instruction.Explains and demonstrates techniques and methods of regulating movements of body to musical or rhythmic accompaniment.May teach theory and practice of dance notation.May choreograph and direct dance performance.Participate in in-service and professional development activities and staff meetings, as required or assignedContinually communicate with students on instructional expectations to keep them informed of their progress in meeting those expectationsAM/PM DutyCommunicate with parents through conferences and other meansCollaborate with other professionals (guidance counselors, librarians, etc.) to carry out school wide instructional or related activities as needed


Program Development:

  • Continue to develop innovative methods and techniques for instructing dance. Potentially help design a middle school music program for the future.


Performances:
  • Develop, coordinate and present student programs.


Committee Involvement:
  • Join and contribute to one monthly committee.Participate in PLC's.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND/OR ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Prior related experience with increasing levels of responsibility in a school setting.Skills to manage personnel and services, communicate effectively, problem solve.Knowledge, experience and demonstrated action of best practices in curriculum, instruction, business, accounting practices, education code and school policies and philosophies.Abilities to sit for prolonged periods, maintain and verify completeness of records, meet schedules and deadlines, communicate with persons with varied cultural and educational backgrounds, communicate in oral and written form.Significant physical abilities include reaching/handling/fingering, talking/hearing conversations, visual acuity/depth perception/visual accommodationEducation required: H.S or Higher EducationPE License OR Charter Registry registered with Teachers Standard Practices Commission (thru MLA)First Aid, CPR, AED and Bloodborne certification required.Code of Conduct and Ethics Agreement signatory upon employment.Excellent organizational, planning and implementation skills.


Time Management:

A minimum 30 minute lunch for every 8 hours worked; to be coordinated with support staff and supervisory personnel.

SALARY, HOURS, APPLICATION AND REPORTING
  • Salaried/ one (1) FTE: 40,000 - 48,889.51Hours of operation: Monday through Thursday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm; Friday, 8:00 am to 2:00 pmReports to Principal and/or Charter Superintendent. (may report to the Executive Director if applicable)Work Year: September through August
