Job Summary:5 open positions (Will be assigned to various buildings as needed).

Disclaimer: This position is a 3 year maximum grant funded position and will end on or before June 30, 2024.

The District Substitute Teacher will be responsible for covering day to day absences through all PRopel Schools Locations. The district Substitute will be assigned to absences created by Professional Development opportunities for the teacher of record. This role is a great opportunity to become familiar with propel school's culture and many different class settings.

Key Job Elements:
  1. Instructs scholars and groups in specified content areas.
  2. Plans curriculum, lessons, and teaching methods that align with Propel School’s educational framework.
  3. Evaluates student progress based on papers submitted, test scores and observation.
  4. Monitors students’ progress in and outside of the classroom.
  5. Maintains physical environment of the classroom.
  6. Maintains contact with parents of scholars.
  7. Prepares report cards, educational records, classroom observation records, and other forms as necessary.
  8. Communicates with team members in that content area or grade band and the teacher that is out, when and if that teacher is able to be contacted,
  9. Regularly checks-in with building leadership
  10. Participates in building and district level professional developments
  11. Communicates to families as needed and in a timely fashion
  12. Provide support to scholar overall learning when not assigned to a specific classroom, including but not limited to duties coverage, working with small groups of students, etc.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required:
  1. Valid PA Teaching Certification
  2. Strong instructional and classroom management skills
  3. High level of personal organization and planning
  4. Ability to develop rigorous lesson plans and assessments
  5. Deep content area knowledge
  6. Strong communication and relationship building skills
  7. Willingness to participate in ongoing professional development
  8. Ability to utilize data to differentiate instruction
  9. A commitment to the Promising Principles of Propel
  10. Strong interpersonal skills, cultural competency, high degree of emotional intelligence and self-awareness with the ability to reflect and adapt to diverse environments.

Physical Demands:
  1. Must be able to walk around the classroom at least 75% of the time while engaging with scholars.
  2. The person in this position constantly operates a computer and other technology in the classroom to support instruction.
  3. The person in this position frequently communicates with various internal and external stakeholders regarding curriculum, instruction and assessment. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations
  4. When deemed age and/or developmentally appropriate, assist students in daily personal tasks (i.e.-tying shoes, assisting with coats, escorting to busses, and etc.)
