Job Description

Here's what you need to know:

KIPP New Jersey | Miami is looking for an exceptional Associate Director of New Teacher Development to serve as one of our region's experts in the growth and development of the new teachers in our schools. You will be responsible for driving the results of our Teacher in Residency program -- converting resident teachers into lead teachers in the span of one academic year. In order to accomplish this, you will be developing the leadership and coaching capacity of school-based New Teacher Coaches. In this capacity, you will observe and collect data on new teachers in our schools in order to diagnose issues specific to new teacher development, and provide excellent coaching and professional development for both teachers and leaders.

  • You have been an outstanding teacher with a proven track record of results.
  • You've preferably taught and coached at the middle and/ or high school level, led within a building or across a network, and you are experienced with the developmental needs of new teachers and how to support them to flourish.
  • You have experience coaching, as well as designing and facilitating top notch professional development.
  • You have a proven track record of growth in the teachers you have coached and data to show their growth.
  • You are ready to make an impact across schools by sharing your knowledge and developing the capacity of teachers and leaders across our network of schools in Newark, Camden, and Miami.


Here's what you'll be doing:


  • Developing the leadership and coaching capacity of school-based New Teacher Coaches to support at least 80% of our Teachers in Residence to convert to lead within one year.

  • Designing professional development sessions and resources, coaching tools and materials, communication and data collection systems and methods to make this new program the best it can be.

  • Designing and facilitating a curriculum of professional development for new teachers based on their particular needs in order to support them to become excellent teachers.

  • Observing, collecting data, and providing feedback on school-based facilitators of professional development.

  • Coaching New Teacher Coaches and Facilitators on their own coaching, facilitation, and implementation of the program.

  • Ensuring that the New Teacher Development Program is carried out with fidelity in all schools across our network.

  • Liaison with the school leaders, keeping them informed of the progress of their new teachers and the program itself.

  • Ensuring additional support for TIRs who are struggling, such as partnering with School Leaders and Assistant Principals to create support plans.

  • Moderating an online platform designed to respond to questions and resource requests of TIRs.

  • Working closely with our Teaching and Learning TEAM to keep up to date with the latest initiatives and priorities. Also working with the recruitment Team to support recruitment of TiRs, and the Performance Management Team.

  • Working closely with our certification institutions- Relay Graduate School of Education to understand the demands of those programs and how to support TIRs through them.


Qualifications

Must Haves:

  • Minimum 4 years exemplary teaching experience with outstanding student achievement results

  • Minimum 2 years' experience in a full-time coaching role (assistant principal, dean of instruction, instructional coach, etc.) with demonstrated success in getting academic results through others

  • Experience having been a New Teacher Coach or mentor

  • Knowledge of new teacher development and supports, current educational trends, methods, research, and technology, professional development design, and program planning and implementation

  • A commitment to promoting equity through the identification and removal of barriers, facilitation of learning, cultivation of community, and empowerment of people

  • Experience leading engaging and effective professional development for adults

  • Strong communication skills and follow-through

  • Demonstrated initiative in prioritizing amidst complex needs and strategically planning to get results

  • Flexibility and ability to multi-task within an ambiguous, fast-moving, entrepreneurial environment while also driving toward clarity and solutions

Nice to Haves:

  • Leadership experience with demonstrated student growth under your leadership

  • Experience working with diverse and underserved communities

  • Background in Special Education

  • Training in new teacher development and/ or coaching
