    Position: Assistant Principal - Elementary School

    Days: 208 Day Contract

    POSITION DESCRIPTION:

    Assist the Principal in the administration of the school, including hiring, evaluating staff and providing leadership in the areas of personnel, curriculum development, student programs, budgets, contracts, professional development design and delivery. The Assistant Principal would serve as an instructional leader largely supporting teachers in improving instructional practices. Responsibilities also include school safety, student attendance, student discipline and community relations.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Must possess or be eligible for Colorado Principal License

    Must have a minimum of an M.A. degree

    Spanish bilingual skills desired

    Previous administrator-type experience and background in teaching preferred

    EXPERIENCE:

    Successful experience in increasing student achievement in high stakes testing environment

    Experience working with diverse population

    Must have proven experience in standards-based education, data driven instruction, embedded professional development, and use of assessment data

    Must have proven success in increasing student achievement and creating positive change at the elementary school level in a standards-based instructional program

    RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Strong instructional leader for the elementary school level
    • Increase student achievement
    • Use embedded professional development to build professional learning communities
    • Use assessment data to improve standards-based instructional program
    • Model, develop, and foster positive leadership with sensitivity to the unique and needs of minority students
    • Articulate a sense of vision and mission for the school and community consistent with the district's mission and focus
    • Strategic planning and entrepreneurship in developing educational interventions to improve school performance
    • Demonstrate communication/human relationship skills and organizational needs to develop an open, trusting relationship between faculty, students, and community members
    • Facilitate collective decision-making with staff and community and confront issues after thorough investigation
    • Demonstrate effective organizational and management skills
    • Evaluate and supervise certificated and classified employees in accordance with board policy and procedures
    • Demonstrate administrative characteristics that initiate, facilitate and promote organizational effectiveness
    • Promote and support the professional growth and development of certificated and classified staff
    • Communicate effectively with parents and promote parental involvement
    • Demonstrate experience with data driven instruction and embedded professional development
    • Assist in planning an effective, consisted and well articulated program for student discipline and attendance within the academy
    • Be a willing team member for the educational change needed to promote a successful learning academic of students
    • Be a decision-maker that can confront issues after thorough investigation and the utilization of research knowledge
    • Use knowledge of systems to support improvement of current systems
    • Demonstrate high academic expectations for all staff and students
    • Be responsible to the principal and will function as directed by the principal
    • Promote and sustain a healthy school culture and climate
    • Perform other duties as assigned
