The Food and Nutrition Services Department constantly strives to calibrate our management of operations to best serve the students of Cambridge. We want to better represent the CPS vision plan by emphasizing Family & Community Partnerships as well as improve implementation and progress monitoring of progressive initiatives. The School Nutrition Communication and Community Outreach Specialist is responsible for maintaining cohesive and accessible communication with the school community and Nutrition Department. The ideal candidate will possess a keen understanding of the changing school nutrition environment and be committed to improvement.

Duties :
The Food & Nutrition Services Assistant reports to the Director of Food and Nutrition Services. Duties and responsibilities include the following:
  • An employee in this position communicates with and acts as a liaison between managers, employees, students, principals, faculty members, and parents.
  • Collaborates with community members to promote childhood nutrition and to organize community events.
  • Creates and oversees district wide promotions in order to increase meal participation.
  • In addition to coordinating media information and marketing for cafeterias, social media (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, Tumblr, and Wordpress) and signage, the School Nutrition Communication & Community Outreach Specialist will assist ICTS staff with content for website and other forms of media.
  • The employee will also assist the director in collaborating with district initiatives and coordinate décor design projects for cafeterias.
  • The employee will also assist the director develop/create all forms of signage to include menu boards, labels, static clings, a la carte poster, pamphlets, digital displays, etc.
  • Will collaborate with department partners in developing nutrition education programming for the district.
  • Develops all gluten free and special meal menus and works with parents and students on food allergy concerns.
  • Assists director in recipe development and menu planning.
  • Assists managers in developing and implementing promotions and marketing campaigns.
  • Responsible for developing and implementing annual marketing plans and tracking metrics for campaigns and all social media platforms.
  • Assists director with determining projects and assignments for dietetic interns and volunteers in community, wellness, administrative and food service rotations.
  • Trains managers to improve their marketing skills; trains staff on methods and best practices.
  • Assists the Director in developing and tracking the training of all new department hires to ensure compliance with program protocols.
  • Coordinates and conducts focus groups and menu advisory committees to communicate and solicit input on menus.
  • Develops and administers customer service surveys and communicates results as directed.
  • Assists with various projects from conception, development, establishment and evaluation; assist with taste testing events.
  • Provides on-site visits to schools and recommends changes and solutions for managers.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in marketing, public health, nutrition, dietetics, food science, hospitality, science, or directly related field.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in School Nutrition, Food Production, Public Health or similar position; Registered Dietitian credential (RDN) could be considered an equivalent of 2 years of experience.
  • Familiar with Dietary Guidelines for Americans and USDA School Nutrition.
  • Microsoft office (required), USDA approved menu planning software (preferred) and working knowledge and experience using social media including iMovie, lumen5, Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, Snapchat, Canva, etc.
Skills:
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, management, and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate effectively via written, verbal and social media channels.
  • Experience creating materials that reflect, engage, and affirm the voices, stories, and perspectives of students and families from marginalized backgrounds.
  • Understand the importance of technology and automation in data capture and analysis.
  • Ability to appropriately prioritize, detail oriented and goal driven, willing to learn and assume responsibility.
  • Flexible attitude and an ability to collaborate in a team environment.
  • Strong oral presentation skills with the ability to engage with various audiences. Bi-Lingual or Multi-Lingual a plus.
Terms of Employment:
This position has a 12-month, 40 hours per week schedule. Managers employee benefits schedule, including health insurance and vacation.
