NATURE OF POSITION:
Under the supervision of the Director II - Career & Technical Education, the Coordinator II - Adult Education and Credit Recovery Programs is responsible for coordinating and developing dynamic Adult Education programming where adult learners explore and prepare to meet their academic learning, college, and career goals and providing support, leadership, and assistance in the design and implementation of credit recovery programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Manage the Adult Education program, including high school equivalency education and testing and English language programs
  • Manage and organize instructors, oversee enrichment and vocational courses, assist with college and career transitional programs, and schedule and monitor evaluative testing programs
  • In partnership with the Director, assure curricular compliance with state and federal Adult Education standards
  • Meet with and counsel interested adult learners, complete intake forms and assessment testing, and enroll new learners in appropriate adult education courses
  • Develop and facilitate partnerships with college representatives, employers, Department of Labor, economic development organizations and others in the development of programs
  • Maintain adult education records and prepare program and other reports as requested by the Director
  • Respond to public inquiries regarding adult education and enrichment activities, and receive and respond to participant feedback
  • Work with participants to resolve disputes and handle conflicts in a professional manner
  • Prepare and assist in the preparation of program brochures and promotional materials; design and create program-specific marketing materials; update and maintain the adult education portion of the Danville Public Schools website
  • Deal courteously with the public; establish and maintain effective and collegial relationships within the community and with school and city officials, employees, community groups, and outside agencies
  • Collaborate with appropriate district staff and site-based administrators to support the development, implementation, and monitoring of credit recovery programs
  • Coordinate with secondary principals to identify eligible students, develop individual credit recovery plans, and monitor student progress to assure compliance with all local and state guidelines, regulations, and requirements in regard to awarding course credit
  • Provide communication and articulation of credit recovery opportunities and programs at all levels and sites
  • Review contracts and/or programs of current and future online curriculum providers to ensure academic fidelity, student success, and fiscal accountability
  • In partnership with the Director of Professional Learning, assist with development and delivery of training and on-going assistance
  • Oversee the use of department budget and ensure availability of appropriate supplies for personnel
  • Serve as a liaison between the school district and various community groups and agencies
  • Provide status reports and projections to district administrators and/or the School Board as requested
  • Oversee daily operations of the department, including assignment of work to personnel and monitoring the quality of work accomplished
  • Maintain a program of good public relations through cooperation with other district and school personnel and through participation in appropriate local, state, and national organizations
  • Proactively seek professional learning through membership in professional organizations and participate in leadership/management and program-specific educational seminars and conferences
  • Perform other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:


  • Ability to plan, organize, and direct a comprehensive adult education program, work-based learning program, and credit recovery program.
  • Excellent leadership and supervisory skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, local program managers, the community, and administrative staff
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of the organization and communication channels of school divisions and the Virginia Department of Education Office of Adult Education and Literacy preferred.
  • Ability to review and evaluate the overall effectiveness of local and regional programs, set goals and long range plans for local and regional programs, and develop and administer regional budgets, policies and programs preferred


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's Degree in education administration, adult education, or related content area, and a postgraduate professional license endorsement in Administration & Supervision PreK-12. Minimum of five (5) years of successful classroom/teaching experience. Experience in the field of adult education and/adult learning theory preferred.

START DATE: 2021 - 2022 School Year
SALARY / STIPEND: Salary Range: $81,395 - $118,023 annually, depending on experience and advanced degrees. Danville School Board pays the employee cost, in full, for state-mandated life insurance; and in part for state retirement and health insurance. Other benefits - sick leave and personal leave.
