The Senior Lead Educator, Curriculum Math & Science Grades 9-12 will hold a critical senior leadership position in the district and will work closely with cabinet officials to set the instructional vision and strategy for Camden City School District.

 

ROLE OVERVIEW

The Division of School Support will support the vision for Camden City School District by providing tailored instructional support to schools necessary for students to be college and career ready. Reporting to the Assistant Superintendent, and working closely with other central office staff, the Senior Lead Educator, Curriculum Math & Science Grades 9-12 will be responsible for overseeing the rollout and high-quality implementation of State Standards and assessments across Camden’s schools.

 

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • New Jersey Administrative Certificate with Principal or School Administrator endorsement. 
  • Currently holds, or previously held, a teaching license or instructional certificate in the subject matter.
  • In-depth mathematics and/or science content area expertise with significant knowledge base about effective content-specific research-based teaching strategies and curricular materials that support academic growth among students 
  • In-depth understanding and expertise of the shifts in instruction required to transition successfully to the State Standards and how to provide high-quality coaching, curricular supports, professional development and training to school leaders and teachers to facilitate outstanding standards aligned instruction in schools
  • At least 5 years of senior level experience working directly with superintendents, executive cabinet leaders, school board members, non-profits or community representatives strongly preferred
  • At least 2 years of experience successfully managing adults towards achieving ambitious outcomes 
  • At least 5 years of successful mathematics and/or science teaching experience in middle and/or high school with demonstrated student achievement gains; preferred experience in urban settings 
  • At least 2 years of successful experience in a school leadership or central office role focused on curriculum, coaching and/or professional development with documented results of strong outcomes 
  • Satisfactory or Effective summative performance evaluation rating for current or most recent position
  • Track record and experience with data-driven decision-making, grounded in the use of staff performance and student achievement data
  • Preferred experience leading major change management efforts 
  • Preferred leadership experience in an urban school district 
  • A valid driver’s license as well as current insurance and vehicle with valid registration
  • Required criminal history background check, physical and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status

 

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Major roles and responsibilities include:

  • Collaborates and liaises closely with Assistant Superintendents, Principals, and Lead Educators to craft the vision and strategy for curriculum, instruction and professional development for the district
  • Ensures that instruction in schools is aligned with the State Standards in close collaboration with the Assistant Superintendents and other members of the School Support Team
  • Supports the rollout of assessments and works in close collaboration with team members to determine how to use testing data to drive meaningful improvements in instruction over time
  • Selects and implements the use of new high quality benchmark and end of year assessments 
  • Develops and oversees curriculum implementation for all of CCSD’s schools
  • Critically evaluates current curriculum materials and makes strategic decisions about retaining or adjusting curriculum materials or determining where the district should make strategic investments in new curricular materials that will best position the district to make dramatic student achievement gains
  • Spends a significant amount of time in schools assessing ongoing implementation of the curriculum and makes adjustments on an ongoing basis to align with improving student achievement
  • Designs, delivers and monitors district-wide and school-specific professional development for school leaders and teachers focused on delivery of high-quality instruction in alignment with State Standards
  • Determines how to best adjust curriculum implementation to meet the needs of all of Camden’s students, including special education students and English Language Learners, while still maintaining high academic expectations, in close collaboration with the Office of Special Services
  • Drafts internal communications and supplementary materials to promote strong understanding of the standards and aligned curriculum among school-based staff to foster deep, more rigorous learning and establish a uniform baseline for success against which all students can assess their college- and career-readiness
  • Collaborates with Assistant Superintendents and team members to determine if and how to align observation and evaluation tools with the standards by assessing whether or not instructional staff are making the required shifts in practice necessary for students to master the Standards
  • Develops indicators, rating profiles, and other related tools to allow educators to self-assess (and school leaders to ascertain) if instruction is moving behind lower levels of critical thinking and procedural skills to include a greater focus on conceptual understanding and real world applications of learning
  • Develops training materials for school-based staff on how to select more rigorous essential content for lesson and unit plans to raise academic expectations for students
  • Researches cutting edge instructional trends and best practices from national, state, and local school districts and charter schools to identify new, innovative strategies to improve the quality of instruction in Camden’s schools

The Senior Lead Educator, Curriculum Math & Science Grades 9-12  may also take on other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by their supervisor, the Superintendent and/or other members of the senior leadership team.
