General Statement of Duties:
The individual should have the ability to develop and implement positive behavior supports. Knowledge of adolescent social-emotional development, including an understanding of mental health diagnoses and trauma and how this impacts academic performance. The ability to develop and use techniques for dealing with behaviorally challenged youth. The candidate should have the ability to develop effective behavioral intervention plans and provide direct behavioral interventions in a school setting. Data gathering skills including, observing and accurately describing student behavior and activities, gathering data and maintaining accurate records. The ability to build relationships and work with individuals from a variety of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.

Essential Duties:
  • Collaborate with the Social Emotional Support Services team to develop and implement behavioral strategies for identified students.
  • Provide one to one direct behavioral interventions as prescribed by the Social Emotional Support Services team.
  • Assist with implementation of school wide Positive Behavior Intervention Supports.
  • Assist identified students in the classroom with remaining engaged in the instruction and provide behavioral supports to foster academic success.
  • Maintain safety of students and act as positive role model.
  • Assist with de-escalating students.
  • Collect data to monitor students' progress related to Behavior Intervention Plans and targeted counseling goals developed by the Social Emotional Support Services team.
  • Collaborate with the general education and special education teachers to address student behavioral and social-emotional needs in the classroom.
  • Support the creation of a classroom culture and environment that develops and nurtures the emotional, and social abilities of the student.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct progress monitoring data and other written records.


Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree with emphasis in an educational subject area preferred. A Virginia teaching license and/or counseling experience preferred, but not required. Teaching experience and/or counseling experience preferred. Knowledge of adolescent social-emotional development preferred. Excellent written and oral communication skills are needed. Behavior management skills are essential.

This position is for the 2021-22 School year. Temporary position. Open until filled. Those selected for an interview will be contacted by the Principal.

HOURS WORKED MAY NOT EXCEED 29 HOURS PER WEEK ALONE OR IN COMBINATION WITH ANY OTHER TEMPORARY ASSIGNMENT, INCLUDING SUBSTITUTING.
RATE OF PAY IS $27.36 PER HOUR
