Position Description:

A Distinctive Schools Nurse holds as their top priority the health, safety and medical well-being of the students and staff at the school. A nurse will provide direct professional nursing services, first aid, illness and emergency care to students and staff in response to the nursing assessment and in accordance with professional standards, school policies and procedures, and state and local mandates. This person will:

• Administer medication as required by IEPs and maintain accurate medical records to ensure compliance with state and school mandates including immunizations, physical examinations, and medical conditions and the related archival responsibilities
  

• make appropriate assessment and referrals for suspected abuse/neglect as a mandated reporter and collaborate with social workers and Dean. Keep accurate documentation and log of reports to DCFS
  
• Communicate with teachers, case manager, social workers, other school personnel, parents/guardians and ALL CPS clinicians to enhance cooperative action, which will meet the health and safety needs of our students
  

Requirements:

• Bachelor Degree in Nursing
  
• Certification as a registered nurse
  
• Certification as a school nurse OR begins certification process once hired
  
• Must possess physical ability to perform all required work
  
• Maintain a professional relationship with supervisors, staff, parents, students and the public
  
• Work independently and in teams to complete job duties and assignments in a timely manner with limited supervision
  
• Successful background check
  
• Ability to work 40 hours per week
