Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds

Position Description
The Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds reports to the Business Administrator and is responsible for the leadership, supervision and overall management, maintenance and operation of the South Buffalo Charter School buildings and grounds. The Supervisor develops maintenance policies and procedures that ensure the optimal functioning of building, grounds and equipment. This position manages all building systems including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, safety and waste management. Manages, trains and directs employees in the general maintenance of building, grounds and equipment. Participates in the negotiation of service contracts and oversees approved contractors engaged in facility projects. Ensures the efficient functioning and operation of the school's facilities and that a safe, clean and attractive environment exists for the students, employees and the community.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Interprets and supervises the implementation of school policies with respect to buildings and grounds.
  • Directs, plans, develops, evaluates and supervises facilities, engineering, construction, maintenance and support systems e. g., building maintenance system.
  • Prepares and delivers reports required by the Business Administrator, Principal and Board of Trustees.
  • Formulates maintenance department goals.
  • Develops and implements a schedule of maintenance on a weekly, monthly and annual basis.
  • Manages and works with outside contractors and consultants in overseeing new construction and major repair work.
  • Recruits and supervises the maintenance and cleaning personnel.
  • Participates in employee evaluations.
  • Develops, oversees, maintains, and refines department budget for operation of facilities.
  • Contact vendors, obtains bids as required by the Board of Trustees and any SED regulation for equipment materials, supplies, and services.
  • Develops specifications for purchases of new equipment, materials, supplies, and services.
Required Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma
  • At least five (5) years of experience in construction management, supervision and/or maintenance of facilities
  • Previous experience in managing construction projects
  • Must have knowledge of HVAC systems and boiler operations
  • Ability to interpret detailed written instructions, blueprints, and schematic drawings
  • Evidence of sound technology skills
  • High level communication skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Knowledge of local, state and federal guidelines as it relates to building operations
  • Willing and able to work in the following conditions: dusty, wet, cold, hot, high, humidity, noisy, indoors, outdoors, on ladders, in small spaces and on a roof.
  • Able to carry 50 pounds
