    We are located in the seacoast area of Southeastern New Hampshire, with a year round population of nearly 15,000 residents. SAU 16 has a diverse housing mix and population, with a combination of seniors, young families, and millennials that call the area home. Cooperative Middle School serves 1100 in grades 6-8. Exeter is ideally situated 50 miles north of Boston, MA and 50 miles south of Portland, ME along Interstate 95.

    We are seeking an outstanding instructional leader to serve as Interim Principal of Cooperative Middle School for the 2021-2022 academic year. The person selected to serve in the interim capacity remains eligible to participate in the search process for the permanent position beginning in October, 2021.

    We are seeking an educational leader who demonstrates, at best, the following five components with respect to their approach to the position of Principal:
    • Believes in the importance and value of all human narratives and identities and leads within an anti-biased and anti-racist framework that actively promotes equitable practices for all members of the CMS community.

    • Reflects a high level of integrity and character that can be observed and modeled through visible behaviors while interacting with students, staff and families.

    • Has ample secondary classroom teaching experience that reflects knowledge of research-based instructional and practical assessment strategies.

    • Has a broad base of knowledge regarding competency based learning and secondary curriculum.

    • Possesses a background in terms of interests, professional affiliations, and experiences varied enough to bring diversity to our district leadership team.

    Desirable start date In July 1, 2021 with an understanding that it may be delayed due to current employment obligations.

    Minimum Requirements:
    • Master's degree or higher in education leadership with certification (or eligible) as a New Hampshire School Principal.

    • Demonstrated administrative and collaborative leadership experience at the secondary level.

    • Successful practice and evidence of leading in a competency-based, equity driven academic program.

    • A passion for helping students grow and learn.

    • An ability to manage change while strengthening relationships and building networks within the community.


    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    • Knowledge of social and emotional learning best practices.

    • Commitment to competency based education.

    • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiates instruction based upon student learning styles.

    • Knowledge of elementary school curriculum and concepts.

    • Knowledge of best practices in administration, program evaluation and staff supervision.

    • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.

    • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education.

    • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.

    • Ability to develop and implement projects.

    • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

    • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.

    • Ability to organize multiple tasks and conflicting time constraints.

    • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to leadership, performance and professional growth.

    • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.


    Work Schedule

    The work year for this position is 260 days.

    Certification/License:
    • New Hampshire State Certification as a School Principal

    • Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.


    Education
    • Bachelor's and Master's Degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in School Administration/Educational Leadership


    Experience
    • A minimum of five years of successful teaching experience at the secondary level, preferably in a middle school environment.

    • Successful administrative experience at the secondary school level required.

    Compensation:
    • The salary range is $118,000 - $126,000.


    Essential Functions
    • Develops and administers school programs consistent with school district goals and objectives.

    • Provides leadership and direction to staff with regard to the ongoing evaluation and improvement of learner-centered educational programs, including curricular and extracurricular activities.

    • Promotes a school environment that is safe and conducive to individualized instruction, cooperative curriculum development, and student learning.

    • Ensures that Board policies and procedures are implemented and followed at the school.

    • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.

    • Encourages staff to continue to grow professionally and to prototype new approaches or strategies to teaching.

    • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping and reporting for all student activities, attendance and records as required by law.

    • Coordinates the work of school staff and school district program leaders to develop and implement instructional programs and teaching practices.

    • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning, and works with teaching staff to modify instructional methods to fit students' needs, including students with special needs.

    • Coordinates with the central office in recruitment and selection of employees, the proper maintenance of employee personnel files, the administration of collective bargaining agreements, corrective action, and other human resource issues.

    • Organizes and conducts regular meetings with teachers for continuing development of instructional techniques.

    • Involves staff in the evaluation of programs and the planning of new programs.

    • Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.

    • Ensures that student conduct conforms with the school's standards and school district policies.

    • Supervises and evaluates teaching staff and other building employees in accordance with the school district's evaluation plan, and makes recommendations regarding goals, areas needing improvement and continued employment.

    • Organizes and manages the budgetary and financial affairs of the school consistent with school district policies.

    • Develops strong relationships with parents and encourages active engagement and involvement in the school community.


    Additional Duties

    Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Superintendent and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
