The individual will provide animal science instruction to high school juniors and seniors enrolled in BOCES programs. The individual will be responsible for planning, implementation, and facilitating all instructional requirements in the areas including animal handling, anatomy and physiology, grooming, pet first aid, health and disease, clinical practices, veterinary terminology, and safety and sanitation. This course provides students with opportunities to care for and be exposed to a wide variety of animals within the classroom setting. Students will operate a grooming parlor that is used as a learning model for the handling and care-taking of animals. They will use the tools of the trade, including diagnostic and grooming equipment. Upon successful completion of this program, students may receive college credits pending established procedures. Candidates for this position should, preferably, have relevant in-depth experience in the field of animal science. The individual must have or be eligible for appropriate teaching certification upon hire. It is anticipated that an individual with industry experience would qualify for certification with successful completion of three workshops and an examination (if applicable). Regular attendance and dependability are required. Other responsibilities may be assigned. Assignment is subject to change.
