PURPOSE OF JOB: To promote, support, and maintain quality literacy instruction which results in an increase in student achievement on state and district assessments. To build capacity and efficacy of teachers to internalize literacy instruction and make instructional decisions based on student data.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist and the district literacy program.
Assist teachers and principals with the collection of data, analysis of data results and supports the sharing of findings with all staff and district leaders.
Support schools in reviewing student achievement and assisting with placing students in appropriate reading and writing intervention and support services.
Model targeted research-based strategies with use of resources for teachers.
Provide a variety of professional development which includes job-embedded, co-teaching, and co-planning, in the area of literacy.
Assist teachers using software and materials related to English Language Arts curriculum.
Meet regularly with the classroom teacher to plan literacy instruction that correlates district curriculum with individual student needs.
Attend professional development to enhance knowledge of pedagogy and content, especially literacy.
Maintain and submit documentation of support in schools.
Analyze data and provide targeted support in collaboration with the English Language Art Coordinator and Lead Literacy Interventionist.
Perform other duties and responsibilities related to literacy as assigned by supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Masters in Reading
Minimum of five (5) year successful classroom teaching experience
Knowledge of literacy research.
Knowledge of the 5 areas of reading instruction and how to explicitly teach each one.
Knowledge of reading inventories and miscue analysis.
Leadership team experience
Professional development evidence
Knowledge of Professional Learning Communities
Eligible to receive a Missouri Certification
Knowledge of Missouri Learning Standards
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Masters in Reading
Teaching experience in urban schools
Experience with curriculum and assessment development
