JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Office of Student Support Services is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Behavior Intervention and In-School Suspension teaching assistant. BIC and ISS Teaching Assistants are supervised by the Office of Student Support Services and the building principal. This position is responsible for assisting the building administration in providing support to individual students to build social and emotional skills. This position is also responsible for de-escalating and redirecting students, as well as supervising the Behavior Intervention Center and In-School Suspension room.

REPORTS TO: Student Support Services

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Supervise the Behavior Intervention Center/In-School Suspension Room or Behavior Intervention Process
  • Work with individual students or groups of students needing to develop social, emotional and/or academic skills
  • Develop rapport and interact effectively with students
  • Respond to emotionally charged situations calmly and effectively
  • Provide the administrator overseeing the Behavior Intervention Center and In-School Suspension Room or the process with information regarding individual students and plans to improve behavior
  • Implement de-escalation and behavior management techniques with students needing a reset and/or support with building skills
  • Supervise students in returning to classroom instruction
  • Assist administration in communicating with parents and teachers
  • Collaborate with staff, students and families in a professional manner
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Maintain a sign-in log with student information regarding interventions and supports

CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENTS:
  • New York State Level I, Level II, Level III, Pre-Professional, or Continuing teaching assistant certificate is required.


Summer School assignments will be determined upon summer school enrollment. The number of Teaching Assistants assigned to the Summer School program will be determined based on student need.

Dates of Summer School are as follows:

  • July 6 - August 13
    • Monday - Friday 11:30-2:30 or 12:30-3:30
