After School Program (ASP) Instructor (K-8) - Competencies and Qualifications

Lighthouse Community Public Schools is looking for a talented After School Program (ASP) Instructor (K-8) to join our team who is relentlessly committed to ensuring that traditionally underserved students of color achieve our mission of completing college, securing a career of their choice, and becoming lifelong changemakers in their communities. Your responsibilities will include:
  • Core activities include:
    • K-8 Instructional Staff Roles: Develop and lead an elementary or middle school, engaging enrichment and academic class, daily:
      • Create an environment that promotes student engagement, interest, and building skills not typically found in core day classes.
      • Provide homework assistance
      • Facilitate skill-building literacy activities
      • Establish collective class agreements
      • Maintain an appropriate learning environment and model appropriate behavior
      • Identify and support student academic challenges
      • Create an engaging class based on instructor's passions and interests as well as student interest
  • Actively supervise recess activities; maintain physical and emotional safety for all students during that time.
  • Provide Academic Support in an environment that promotes student success and independence.
  • Collaboratively plan and lead activities that build meaningful community connections.
  • Demonstrate professional demeanor by being punctual, consistent, reliable, creative, communicative, courteous and flexible.
  • Attend and actively participate in professional development activities, team and staff meetings to improve the effectiveness of student support and engagement.
  • Actively collaborate with other ASP staff and the larger Lighthouse Community.
  • Administer Lighthouse's student policies and procedures (i.e. attendance, dress code, etc.).
  • Maintain a classroom culture ideal for student learning by implementing preferred Lighthouse strategies and systems.
  • Abide by all state and federal mandates in reporting sexual or physical abuse and neglect.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

We would love to hear from you if your toolbox includes the following:
  • 48 Units and/or AA degree required
  • 2+ years of experience in urban education serving low-income students of color preferred
  • Experience with Google apps
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred

SUPERVISION:

This position will report to the After School Program Manager.

TIME COMMITMENT:

10-month - 190 workdays, part-time position involves approximately 20 hours per week (.5 FTE). All instructors are expected to maintain hours of 3:00 - 6:15 pm on M, T, Th, F, and approximately noon to 6:45 pm on Wednesdays.

The schedule follows the Lighthouse school calendar. There are several times in which Professional Development opportunities begin as early as 8:00 am.

ASP Instructors interested in working more hours can combine this role with a daytime Supervision or Elective Teaching role. Inquire if interested.
