  • Coordinator of Diversity and Inclusion

    Marist High School is seeking a Coordinator of Diversity and Inclusion. This is an 11-month, full-time salaried position with full benefits.

    The Coordinator of Diversity and Inclusion needs to be a person who models care and compassion for all - students, parents, faculty, and staff members. The minimum qualifications are required:
    • Commitment to the Marist Brothers' principles as set forth in Marist's mission statement;
    • Prior administrative and/or leadership experience in a secondary school preferred;
    • Master's Degree in education-related field is preferred;
    • Commitment to diversity and a strong interest in planning multicultural programming;
    • Effective communication skills both in the verbal and written form;
    • Willingness to be an important part of developing a vision for the school;
    • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain strong interpersonal relationships with students, faculty, staff, parents, and the external community;
    • Demonstrated ability to engage others in difficult conversations and manage conflict;
    • Proven ability to exercise initiative and judgment in coordination of programs;
    • Willing to identify and assume new responsibilities in line with an evolving culture

    The Coordinator of Diversity and Inclusion reports to the Principal and the President and works closely with the administrative team. The position start date is July 1, 2021.

    Essential Responsibilities
    • Provides strategic leadership, resources and expertise in the areas of inclusion, diversity, equity and justice;
    • Assists administrators in creating and sustaining an environment which fosters a respect for the integration of diverse students into the academic, co-curricular, athletic, spiritual and social spheres of the school;
    • Assists the President in aligning the school's practices in the areas of diversity, inclusion, equity and justice with our identity as a Catholic school and as a school inspired by the mission and charism of the Marist Brothers;
    • Works with the President, Principal and Administration to improve effectiveness and success in recruiting and retaining a diverse faculty and staff;
    • Creates and chairs the school's diversity and inclusion committee;
    • Supports and develops student leadership in matters related to diversity, inclusion, equity and justice;
    • Plans, develops and markets inclusion-focused education, programs and events for staff, students and parents;
    • Plans and coordinates professional development workshops focused on teaching adults how to work with all students most effectively, and facilitate and ensure faculty professional growth in understanding the role of social and cultural factors in both learning and teaching;
    • Serves as a coach and trainer for students, parents and employees in relation to cultural diversity and equity affairs;
    • Works with the Admissions Office to recruit, welcome and retain students from diverse backgrounds;
    • Serves as mediator/facilitator of diversity-centered student conflicts;
    • Networks with equity coordinators at other Catholic, Marist and independent schools as well as off-campus resource organizations;
    • Represents the school at local, regional and national multicultural events as determined in conjunction with the principal;
    • Pursues professional development opportunities in order to remain current with inclusion issues and best practices that may affect the school;
    • Supports the efforts of the school's academic and athletic programs;
    • Builds extended networks to promote relationships with local organizations that can support the needs of our students and our community;
    • Contributes to the spiritual values and activities of the school. This includes the promotion of the Marist Mission of the school;
    • Promotes and performs other duties as assigned.;
