The Restorative Practices(RP) Coordinator coordinates and oversees the implementation and sustainability of Restorative Practices District-wide to facilitate safe, healthy and supportive learning environments that ensure academic success for all students, reduces the achievement gap and discipline disproportionalities. The position will strive to uphold restorative principles and values in all aspects of their work. In turn, the Burlington School District (BSD) will strive to create a restorative work environment for all employees of the District.

The essential functions of this position include:
  1. Aligns anti-racism/White supremacy work with Restorative Practices .
  2. Oversees the development and implementation of Restorative Practices, to build community, repair harm and improve the conditions for learning for all students.
  3. Collaborates with school sites, community partners, and other District departments to develop a long-range (3-5 year) plan for implementation of RP with specific goals and strategies that are aligned with other District and school initiatives.
  4. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with community & District partners.
  5. Serves as liaison between District and community partners.
  6. As a member of the District's Leadership Team, the Coordinator collaborates with other District initiatives to align, enhance, and expand restorative practices within a multi-tiered framework including prevention, early intervention, and intensive services for improved student attendance, achievement, and behavior.
  7. Ensures implementation readiness and ongoing fidelity of RP implementation.
  8. Participates in relevant training and collaborative sessions to share best practices and to maintain and disseminate current knowledge of new developments and research in the field.
  9. Oversees and supports BSD's RP teams and their work, including the strategy, communications, finance, evaluation, training, and student and family engagement teams.
  10. Coordinates with UVM research partners to conduct process and outcome evaluations around RP.
  11. Supports schools and programs' RP teams to implement RP with fidelity, which includes attending school based RP team meetings at each school a couple of times during the school year.
  12. Develops and oversees high-level RP professional development and builds in-house training capacity.
  13. Oversees training, technical assistance, coaching, and mentoring to District staff to facilitate the implementation of RP with fidelity.
  14. Increases community support for the implementation of RP.
  15. Ensures District students and families are included and informed about BSD's RP efforts.
  16. Documents and reports RP efforts and lessons learned and provide recommendations for continued quality improvement.

The required qualifications for this position include:
  1. Education:
    1. Minimum Required: A Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, social work, psychology or a related field
    2. Preferred: Master's degree in education, counseling, social work, psychology or a related field
    3. Certification Preferred: Educator's license preferred
  2. Experience:
    1. Minimum Required: Five years of experience in program management, including three years, experience coordinating restorative justice programs in schools.
  3. Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities:[Check only 1 box below]
  • Working knowledge: Sufficient familiarity with the subject to know basic principles and terminology and to understand and solve simple problems.
  • General knowledge: Sufficient knowledge of a field to perform most work in normal situations. The work calls for comprehension of standard situations and includes knowledge of most of the significant aspects of the subject.
  • Thorough knowledge : Advanced knowledge of the subject matter. The work calls for sufficient comprehension of the subject area to solve unusual as well as common work problems, to be able to advise on technical matters and to serve as a resource on the subject for others in the organization.
  • Comprehensive knowledge: Requires complete mastery and understanding of the subject. This term should be used sparingly and only for unusually exacting or responsible positions required to originate hypotheses, concepts, or approaches.

4. List Specific Skills And/Or Abilities Required:
    1. Deep knowledge of Anti-Racism and white supremacy.
    2. Deep understanding of Equity and a desire to create equitable outcome for students.
    3. Deep knowledge of RP.
    4. Demonstrated experience developing and facilitating community partnerships
    5. Demonstrated cultural competence working with diverse groups across race, ethnicity, religion, gender, class, and sexuality.
    6. Demonstrated success in program planning/management and training/coaching within a public education setting.
    7. Experience writing concise and accurate reports and records.
    8. Experience in conflict mediation and restorative practices facilitation.
    9. Understand and be able to use additional software, such as Google drive.
    10. Possess excellent interpersonal skills and be able to work with a variety of individuals, regardless of their backgrounds and be able to engage with a diversity of opinions and perspectives.
