    SALARY PLACEMENT
    Placement on Licensed Teacher salary schedule based upon highest degree earned, college credits earned after highest degree and previous teaching experience. Current Board approved Licensed Teacher salary schedule and Master Agreement are available for review on our district website at www.ssd2.org Highest initial step placement on the Licensed Salary Schedule is Step 9.

    BENEFITS
    Employees who are scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week are eligible to obtain district benefits which include medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance and supplemental benefits. Positions that qualify for benefits also qualify for leave which could include vacation and daily leave to be determined by the position and number of days assigned. Sheridan School District No. 2 is a public employer and participates in the Colorado Public Employees' Retirement Association (PERA). Eligible employees are required by statute to contribute 10% of salary on a pre-tax basis to PERA.

    JOB DESCRIPTION
    • Teach and instruct middle school students in reading and writing.
    • Implement lesson plans designed by classroom teacher as well as work in conjunction with Language Arts and grade level team to develop lesson plans and teaching outlines using explicit instruction, with a focus on higher order thinking and rigor
    • Teach using various methodologies, including lectures, discussions, writing workshops, literacy circles, etc.
    • Plan, develop, and utilize a variety of instructional materials and aids appropriate to the intellectual and instructional level of pupils from varied socio-economic and cultural backgrounds who possess a range of mental and emotional maturity.
    • Provide group and individual instruction to motivate pupils and effectively utilize the time available for instructional activities.
    • Prepare, administer, score, record and report the results of criterion referenced tests.
    • Administer, score, record and report the results of group standardized and quarterly benchmark tests in evaluating pupil growth and progress.
    • Communicate effectively with parents, colleagues and students regarding student growth goals and performance reports.
    • Perform curriculum and instructional development activities.

    MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
    • Must have a Colorado Teacher License with a Language Arts focus or highly qualified in secondary Language Arts
    • At least two years of experience as a middle school Language Arts teacher preferred, but not required
    • ELD endorsement or certification a plus
    • Graduate level coursework in curriculum design, Language Arts, Writing background or Educational leadership also a plus

    QUALIFICATIONS FOR ALL TEACHING POSITIONS
    • Must hold a Colorado Alternative, Provisional, or Professional Teaching License with appropriate endorsements.
    • Bachelor's degree or higher required from an accredited university or college
    • Completed a state approved Teacher Preparation Program or participation in an Alternative Teacher License program.
    • Demonstrates subject matter competency by one of the following means:
      • Hold an endorsement in the subject area teaching through The Colorado Department of Education
      • Pass the appropriate subject area PLACE or PRAXIS exam in Colorado or in a CDE approved state.
      • Pass the Veteran Teacher HOUSSE, and held a license on or before July 1, 2006

    • Apply principles of teaching/learning to enhance student achievement.
    • Utilize teaching methods that are appropriate for the objectives and learners.
    • Modify instruction to meet student needs.
    • Communicate effectively with learners.
    • Provide for and maintain student involvement during instruction.
    Evaluation of instruction
    • Use the evaluation of student outcomes to measure the effectiveness of instruction.
    • Communicate effectively student progress to student and parent/guardian
    Instructional management
    • Attend to tasks in a manner that maximizes instruction.
    • Maintain necessary student records.
    • Assist in planning for appropriate use of volunteers/aides as assigned
    Learning Environment
    • Establish clear expectations for appropriate behavior.
    • Establish consequences for inappropriate behavior.
    • Establish conditions under which students exercise self-discipline, honesty leadership and citizenship.
