GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under general supervision, performs custodial services required to maintain assigned school buildings and adjacent ground areas in a clean, orderly and safe condition.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITES:
From a prepared work schedule, performs work that includes but is not limited to:
  • Basic cleaning and maintenance tasks for various interior/exterior building fixtures, flooring, ceilings and wall surfaces; removing all trash and recycling
  • Refill necessary supplies throughout the building, including custodial carts and storage areas
  • Assist in loading and unloading with various building deliveries
  • Room moves and teacher requests
  • Set-up and take down for building events and permit holders
  • Minor preventive maintenance including, but not limited to, lamp replacement, dispenser installation, custodial equipment, repairing lockers, window latches, door hinges, and washing windows
  • Outdoor duties including, but not limited to, trash pick-up, landscaping, mowing, snow removal, salting and sanding
  • Safety and security duties including, but not limited to, reporting safety and fire hazards to supervisor, arming security systems, security checks of buildings and grounds, turning out lights, locking all windows and doors.
  • Communicates information and receives requests from school staff, the public, student and others who are using the building, related to the performance of custodial services
  • Providing quality customer service and communication
  • Experience working cross-culturally and/or commitment to work toward one's own cultural competence, i.e., valuing difference/diversity, recognizing personal limitations in one's skills and expertise, and having the desire to learn in these areas.
  • Other related duties as assigned

Hours of work: 4:00 pm - 12:00 am*

FTE/Hours Per Week:
1.0/40 hours per week

Salary:

$17.47 starting hourly pay rate

* During the first four months of employment, when school is in session, new hires are scheduled to work 4:00 pm to 12:00 am. During times when school is not in session, and after the new hire has successfully completed four months of employment, the new hire may be scheduled to work the a.m. and other p.m. work shifts (2:00 pm to 10:00 p.m. or 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., Tuesday - Saturday shifts . During this time, the new hire will call each day to confirm with the Custodial Supervisor their daily work shift. New hires are encouraged to apply for current positions to secure a permanent work shift.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of various cleaning techniques.
  • Knowledge and ability to use cleaning equipment, including strippers
    and waxers.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to use cleaning agents safely and effectively.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and maintain records.
  • Ability to take initiative in the completion of custodial work and the ability to work independently within given procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Ability to relate positively and communicate with courtesy and respect with students, school staff, the public,
    co-workers and management.
  • Ability to interpret safety and security policies and procedures and adhere to them.
  • Work requires walking, lifting, climbing, bending, reaching and kneeling.
  • Dependable transportation needed to travel to various locations in the district.
  • Experience working cross-culturally and/or commitment to work toward improving one's own cultural competence,
    i.e., valuing difference/diversity, recognizing personal limitations in one's skills and expertise, and having the desire to learn in these areas.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Successful completion of custodial trainee program.
  • This job is physically demanding - medium to heavy work.
  • There is a possibility of constant standing, walking, and moving depending on day to day tasks.
  • There will be frequent pushing and pulling of loads up to 70+ pounds.
  • There is frequent bending, stooping, and lifting loads up to 50+ pounds.
  • There is frequent sitting, driving, squatting, crouching, climbing, crawling, reaching, kneeling, lifting up to 100+ pounds, and repetitive movements with both hands.
  • Verbal and auditory communication is frequently used. Near and far vision acuity, depth perception, accommodation, field of vision, and feeling are frequently utilized.
