The transportation department is seeking applicants to assist with Special Needs students during their bus rides to and from school. This is a chance to assist with the educational and mobility support needs of students. Positions available in Basalt, Carbondale and Glenwood Springs. This position is part-time with hours in the morning and afternoon.

Starting pay range is $19 -$22.71/hr for SpEd paraprofessionals and $22 - $26.30/hr for Affective Needs Behavior paraprofessionals - all DOE


Summary:

Responsible for Managing Student Behavior and Equipment behind driver's compartment of the school bus:

Job Task description:

  • Create a safe and comfortable atmosphere for the student riders.

  • Support students needs during their ride.

  • Track emerging student needs; physical, emotional, and behavior concerns should be reported to the transportation department and the school.

  • Ensure student safety during their ride by enforcing bus rules and good behavior as well as protecting them from threats from other students or outside influences.

  • Ensure students are properly seated and remain seated until their drop off.

  • Verify that all necessary special needs equipment is present and in working order. Be familiar with all special needs equipment, child safety restraint systems, wheelchairs and wheelchair lifts regularly in use.

  • Keep the bus interior clean; bus swept and trash emptied.

  • Safely and effectively clean up any mess a student makes.


  • Education and related work experience:

    Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.

    SPED experience and bilingual are a plus but not required.

    Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

    patience and flexibility in relating to students

    dependability

    ability to communicate and advocate for student needs

    Ability to administer medication as trained and when required

    Ability to pass a background check in order to work with students.

    Ability to certify in Crisis Prevention
