    SUMMER SCHOOL 2021: MIND, BODY, HEART GENERAL EDUCATION TEACHERS (K-5)

    GENERAL STATEMENT:
    Summer School 2021 will focus on elements of mind, body, heart for elementary school students. The Summer School General Education Teacher K-5 will plan, implement, and assess students in their assigned classroom during summer school. This position is available pending operating budget and grant funding approval.

    For the Summer, Teachers can choose to teach a courses in Reading, Foundational Literacy Skills* (this course requires Elementary or Reading Certification), Math, Science, Technology, PE, Art, and Music.

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Be able to commit to to work either 3 weeks or 6 weeks of summer school.
    • Implement the Summer School curriculum
    • Align and adjust classroom strategies and activities to Tier 1 Instructional Strategies
    • Set appropriate and demanding expectations for students' learning and motivation.
    • Set clear targets for students' learning, building on prior attainment.
    • Ensure effective teaching of whole classes, groups and individuals so that teaching objectives are met, momentum and challenge are maintained, and best use is made of teaching time.
    • Use teaching methods which keep students engaged, including stimulating students' intellectual curiosity, effective questioning and response, clear presentation and good use of resources.
    • Set high expectations for students' behavior, establishing and maintaining a good standard of discipline through well-focused teaching and through positive and productive relationships.
    • Assess how well learning objectives have been achieved and use this assessment for future teaching.
    • Create a safe and welcoming environment so all students can interact and learn
    • Mark and monitor pupils' class work providing constructive oral and written feedback, setting targets for students' progress.
    • Know how to prepare and present informative reports to parents.
    • Recognize that learning takes place outside the school context and provide opportunities to
      develop students' understanding by relating their learning to real and work-related examples.
    • Understand the need to liaise with agencies responsible for pupils' welfare.
    • Establish effective working relationships with professional colleagues including support staff.
    • Identify clear teaching objectives, content, lesson structures and sequences appropriate to the subject matter and the students being taught.
    • Participate in professional development activities.
    • Perform other duties as requested by the Summer School Administrator and Summer School Head Teacher.
    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Current Connecticut Educator Certificate.
    • Currently employed by the Stamford Public Schools.
    • Demonstrated excellence in grade level/subject appropriate teaching. Demonstrated successful experience working with students.
    • Evidence of the ability to work cooperatively with staff.
    • Enthusiasm and commitment to his/her work.
    • Familiarity with national, state and local curriculum standards and framework. Demonstrated experience utilizing research-based instructional strategies.
    • Knowledge and experience of differentiated instruction
    • Evidence of organizational skills and willingness to pursue tasks to a successful completion.
    • Evidence of experience in small group instruction
    • Knowledge of and/or demonstrate the ability to learn and implement Operating Systems (i.e. Windows); Office suites (i.e. Microsoft Office, Google Docs); Presentation Software (i.e. PowerPoint, Keynote); Spreadsheets (i.e. Excel, Google Spreadsheets); Communication and Collaboration tools (i.e. Skype); Accounting Software (i.e. QuickBooks); Student Information Systems (i.e. Naviance, PowerSchool); or any other technology deemed relevant for this position.
    LOCATIONS:
    Varied: Sites to be determined and are subject to change due to unexpected circumstances
    TERM:
    June 28th - August 6th (Six weeks) or June 28th - July 16th (Three Weeks) or July 19th - August 6th (Three weeks)

    SALARY:
    Compensation is as per SEA Teachers Contract. Teachers will be paid 1 hour daily for planning.
