Reports to: Manager II - Custodial Operations

GENERAL PURPOSE

Provides custodial services at assigned site; ensuring an attractive, sanitary and safe environment for students, staff, and visitors; performing a variety of special cleaning operations; preparing facilities for classroom activities and campus events; and completing assignments in a safe, proper, and timely manner.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Cleans assigned facilities and/or grounds thereby maintaining a sanitary, safe, and attractive learning environment.

Consult with administrative and other custodial personnel for the purpose of planning, prioritizing, and scheduling custodial activities and achieving site maintenance objectives.

Informs students and other site personnel by providing information and direction regarding activities, safety issues, and/or proper maintenance of facilities and equipment.

Inspect facilities to ensure the site is suitable for safe operations, maintained in an attractive and clean condition, identifying necessary repairs to facilities and/or equipment, etc.

Maintain supplies and equipment to ensure the availability of custodial items required for properly maintained facilities.

Monitor students and staff in and around work areas to help prevent injuries and ensuring site safety.

Participate in meetings, workshops, and trainings as may be requested.

Perform snow removal to ensure access and safety to site.

Perform minor, job related, maintenance on custodial equipment, classroom furniture and fixtures to ensure proper functionality and usability of items and facilities.

Prepare various written materials for the purpose of documenting activities and/or identifying activities to appropriate personnel for review and/or action.

Replenish classroom and rest room supplies.

Requisition equipment, supplies and materials maintaining availability of required items to perform job functions.

Respond to immediate safety and/or operational concerns by taking appropriate action or notifying appropriate personnel for resolution.

Support other site maintenance staff.

Perform other related duties as required/assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience

High School Diploma or its equivalent, preferred.

Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required.

Certificates, Licenses and Other Special Requirements

Must pass a Pre-Employment Proficiency Test.

Must pass a Criminal Background Clearance.

Must pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages, and/or ratios; understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions.

Knowledge based competencies required to perform the functions of the job include products and materials used in a school setting.

Skill to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to routinely upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.

Skill based competencies required to perform the functions of the job, including operating equipment and materials used in industrial maintenance; adhering to safety practices; preparing and maintaining accurate records.

Ability to read technical information and compose a variety of documents.

Ability to analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions.

Ability to work with others under a wide variety of circumstances; working with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using defined methods.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Work environment is indoors and outdoors with regular exposure to weather conditions; in proximity to moving mechanical parts and electrical equipment; and in confined spaces.

The work is medium work that requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 80 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Must possess the physical ability to work primarily with fingers, perceive the nature of sounds, make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes, express or exchange ideas by the spoken word, substantial movements (motions) with the hands, wrists, and/or fingers, and discern letters or numbers at a given distance.
