Qualifications:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school, supplemented by coursework in security and planning, plus six years of progressively more responsible experience in security risk assessments, incident command, executive protection, and security training environments. Must hold certification, or is capable of becoming certified within one year, as a general instructor in school security, public safety and emergency management with the Department of Criminal Justice Services; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact in a positive, professional manner with students, staff, public officials, and members of the community; ability to exercise good judgment under stressful and potentially dangerous conditions; and ability to successfully complete compulsory certification training approved by the Virginia Center for School Safety within sixty days of hire. Must successfully complete compulsory recertification training annually. Applicants must be at least 21 years old at time of appointment, and possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record.
