STUDENT SUPPORT SPECIALIST (Grant Funded)

Eagle Valley High School

For 21-22 SY

SALARY: $27840 per year ($20 per hour)

This is a grant funded position for the next two school years (2021-22 & 2022-23). At the end of that time the position will be evaluated for transition to funding through school budget allocations.

HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT SUPPORT SPECIALIST:

Supporting at-risk high school students with academic, social and behavioral needs. Supports will include working with students individually, in small groups, and within the classroom. Working in collaboration with teachers and other building staff to plan and implement supports for the identified at-risk students
  • Supports instruction and assessment aligned with District learner outcomes and State achievement standards.
  • Supervises assigned students and maintains a positive learning environment.
  • Adapts instruction to meet the learner needs of all students increasing the probability of advancing their achievement.
  • Maintains positive interpersonal relationships with students, parents, staff, and community members.


Specific teaching assignments for this position may include:
  • MTSS Mentor - being part of the process of gathering data, observing students and classrooms, to implement supports to increase student achievement
  • Study Skills - a course available to all students and provides additional study time with targeted skills development to promote student success.
  • AVID Tutor - under the supervision of the AVID site team in an AVID classroom during the school day. Tutors serve as guides and facilitators of students' learning through questioning, writing, thinking, and discussing.


EVHS SETTING

EVHS serves the communities of the western part of Eagle County. We will have a total population of almost 1000 students next year and compete in 4A athletics as a part of CHSAA. Our demographics include 50% Hispanic, 48% White, and 2% Other ethnic populations. We have a proud history dating back to the 1950's and represent a strong community of students, parents and staff members. SUPERVISED BY: School Principal/Assistant Principal

ESSENTIAL JOB ELEMENTS:
  • Teach the approved Eagle County School District RE50J curriculum based on lesson plans provided by the regular classroom teacher.
  • Implement the regular teacher's assigned responsibilities, plans and schedule.
  • Assess student work when appropriate and time permits.
  • Promote and maintain student behavior expectations conducive to learning, and maximizes learning time.
  • Prepare a summary report of work completed and the day's events for the regular teacher.
  • Complete the Guest Teacher report form.
  • Establish and demonstrate positive human relations with students, parents, other staff members, and the community.
  • Ensure the accuracy, completeness, confidentiality, and security of all student information.
  • Comply with District and School policies and procedures including meeting with assigned students at scheduled location and time.
  • Utilize the Substitute Absence Management/SAM system to accept/decline/manage his/her work and schedule in the capacity of a guest teacher.
  • Other duties as assigned.
